OSBORN ROBERT, C.P.A. Most beloved husband of Shannon Khoury Osborn since 1952; father of Jim (Barbara) of Oakmont, PA, Gina (Murray Campbell) of Westchester County, NY; four grandchildren, Kyle Ellison and Mackenzie Shannon Osborn, Colson Kennedy and Scott Osborn Campbell. Bob was raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and before coming to the U.S. worked at the American Embassy (having previously taught himself shorthand); attended Oberlin Conservatory of Music before entering the Air Force, where he was stationed in the Philippines. He was Summa Cum Laude graduate (1951) of the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Business Administration, and in 1954, received his CPA certificate. He served with industrial firms in the Pittsburgh area, including being Pension Manager and later, Assistant to the Treasurer at Mesta Machine Co. At the First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh, he had been Vice President of the Board of Trustees, Co-Chairman of two Capital Campaigns, served as Treasurer/Controller for a number of years and as Treasurer of Shadyside Concerts. Most pleasing to him was being Chairman of the Membership Committee for many years. In fact, to this day, some members still say that it was because of Bob Osborn that they decided to join the Unitarian Church. He was a volunteer at the Radio Station for the Blind, WQED-FM, East End Co-Operative Ministries, Meals on Wheels, Food Pantry, and Carnegie Library, Squirrel Hill. Also, Bob was Treasurer of the Funeral Consumer Alliance (formerly the Memorial Society of Western PA.). He was an extremely avid reader (often several books concurrently). He was truly a scholar with regard to his books and interests—Civil War, WWII, American Presidents, Pakistan, China, India, and Religions of the World. His library, at one time, included about 5,000 books. Also, music was an important part of his life, having made tapes of all of the Bach Cantatas (for which he taught himself German), many of the great operas (for which he taught himself Italian). One of Bob's and Shannon's greatest pleasures was visiting some of the world's most wonderful art galleries in New York, Washington, Boston, London and Paris. Bob enjoyed swimming at the Jewish Community Center, physical fitness activities, and until two years ago, playing tennis at the Hobart Street Courts. Bob truly loved life, his family, and best doggie friends, Smokey and Monet. There will not be a Memorial Service or Funeral Service. Bob donated his body to the Humanity Gifts Registry for research at all medical and dental schools in Pennsylvania for teaching purposes. This is being handled by the JOHN N. ELACHKO FUNERAL HOME, 3447 Dawson Street. Many obituaries that we read say, “At the end, so-and-so was surrounded by his loving family”. At the end of Bob Osborn's life, thanks to the extreme thoughtfulness of a nurse at Shadyside Hospital Intensive Care Unit, he was surrounded in sound, by music from his favorite composer, Anton Dvorak. Contributions in memory of Bob Osborn may be sent to either Early Learning Center, Fern Moscov Scholarship Fund, Congregation Beth Shalom, 5915 Beacon Street, Pgh., PA. 15217 or to Camp Combe, Campaign for Strong Kids, 684 Peekskill Hollow Rd., Putnam Valley, NY 10579. Our family is grateful to all of the people who have given care and encouragement to Bob during his recent illness, and especially to our Dr. Richard Johnson and Dr. Emily Yee.
