HEDGE HOWARD JEROME Age 80, of Concord, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015, at at Mt. Royal Cemetery Chapel, 2700 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, PA 15116. Howard was born December 21, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of the late Lowell J. Hedge and Essie P. Hedge. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean; brothers, Weldon, Robert and Leon; sister, Aldena. Howard was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He was also a 32° Mason, belonging to Dormont-Whitehall Pennsylvania Lodge #684 F&M and the Scottish Rites of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction USA of Charlotte, NC. Survivors include his children, James Alan Hedge of Dormont, PA, Karen Ann Rychorcewicz of Butler, PA, Mark Howard Hedge and Dean Gerald Hedge both of Kannapolis, NC; seven grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren also survive. SALTZMAN LARRY D. Age 72, of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 11, 2015. He was born March 16, 1943, in Jeannette, a son of the late Melvin D. and Edith Brown Saltzman. Mr. Saltzman owned and operated Type & Print Inc. in Pittsburgh for over 27 years. He has been a Capt for the National Guard in Ligonier. He had been a member of the Irwin Rotary Club where he had been honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was the president of the Community of Laga DaVita. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda Norris Saltzman; two children, Kelly S. (Christopher) Vallely of Ligonier and David P. Saltzman of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Fintan and Caitlin Vallely; his stepmother, Leona Saltzman of Ligonier; and two sisters, Linda (George) Luhovey of Greensburg and Joan Saltzman of Fairmont, WV. Larry's friends and family will gather together Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL, INC., 144 East Main Street, Ligonier, where his life will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. J. Paul McCracken officiating. SMETANA HELEN E. (PRIBILA) Of Munhall, on April 12, 2015, age 87. Beloved wife of the late Charles V. Smetana; devoted mother of Susan (husband, Jeff Popko) Butala, Lynn (husband, David) Forsythe, Jean (husband, William) Rager and Chuck (wife, Trisanne) Smetana; sister of the late Michael, Mary, Jerry, Paul, Tony and Lydia; loving Grandma/“Bambi” to Jessica, Courtney, Lauren, Paige, Danielle, Stephanie, Jenna and Christian. Helen was a 1945 graduate of Vincentian High School where she played the violin in the school orchestra. She was employed by Matthew's in the 1950s and by the Carnegie Library of Homestead from the 1980s through the 1990s. Helen also performed volunteer work at St. Michael Elementary School in Munhall where her children attended and was a devoted and faithful Catholic and member of St. Michael Church and later St. Maximilian Kolbe Church. SPIEGEL JAY HOWARD On Saturday, April 11, 2015, Jay passed away after a lengthy illness. Jay was the only child of the late Saul and Rae Spiegel and nephew of the late Jack and Anne Morris. Jay was like a grandson to them. Left to mourn his loss are his devoted children, Laurie and Gregory Spiegel; his former spouse, Kim Dippolito who has cared for him the past five years; and his loving grandchildren, Lauri and Steven Smith. Jay graduated from Duquesne Law School and practiced law in Pittsburgh. He loved exercise and received his 7th degree black belt. During his illness, he requested a dog so along came Toby, his loyal loving companion. As his illness progressed, he was treated for dialysis at DCI in Point Breeze where they provided excellent care, especially Amanda. The family also wants to thank Eldercrest Nursing and Rehabilitation in West Mifflin for their compassionate care. In Jay's final hours of life, West Mifflin paramedics and Mercy Hospital ER provided kindness and multiple attempts to save Jay's life. CASASANTA EUGENE "GENE" A. Age 68, of Moon Twp., formerly of Coraopolis, passed away April 11, 2015, with his family at his side. He was born in Sewickley, PA, Dec. 1, 1946, to the late Helen Sentawan and Anthony Casasanta. Gene was a graduate of Coraopolis High School and graduated from Robert Morris University with a degree in Business. He was a retired investment Advisor, a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, former President of the MS Society, a four year President of the Moon High School PTO, active in Moon MCAA youth football, and Moon Little League baseball. Gene is survived by his wife, Christine Steele Casasanta; two sons, Nicholas and Tyler Casasanta, both of Moon Twp.; his mother and father-in-law, John and Mary Steele, Moon Twp.; his brothers-in-law, Robert (Debbie) Steele, Las Vegas, Jay Steele, St. Louis, MO, Brian (Lisa) Steele, Chicago, IL; also many nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Gene was also predeceased by a brother, Joseph Casasanta. Friends will be received Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the COPELAND MOON TWP. GEISLER JOHN G. John, 78, of McDonald, North Fayette Twp., died Friday, April 10, 2015, in his home. He was born March 6, 1937, in Oakdale, a son of the late Regis and Eunice (Toward) Geisler. Mr. Geisler was a retired truck driver with Rennekamp Supply Company. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching westerns and listening to country music. Surviving are his children, Karen Geisler of Sturgeon, John (Kelly) Geisler of Imperial, Amy (Scott) Davidson of Oakdale and Kristopher Geisler of McKees Rocks; also surviving are nine grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice (Cook) Geisler (September 13, 2010); a daughter, Linda Machek (2013); brothers, Bob and Butch; and sister, Cookie. Age 62, of Squirrel Hill, formerly of Swissvale and Swisshelm Park, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh with his loving family at his side. He was born April 18, 1952, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Stanley and Martha (Amshey) Cheyne. Kenneth is survived by his family, daughter, Angela Mamrak and her husband, Mike of Hughesville, PA; son, Stanley Cheyne and his wife, Lauren of Delmont; grandchildren, Madeline Rose, Evangeline, Lydia and Adelaide; a sister, Ruth Braem and her husband, George of Monroeville; a niece, Lindsey Braem; and nephew, Douglas Braem. Kenneth held multiple positions in the information technology field throughout his career and was an avid sports fan and lover of life. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Swissvale. He was a member of the Western PA Professional Business Assoc., Northway Christian Community Church and formerly of First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown. He loved antique trucks, restoring several. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 150 and a proud supporter of all who served in the military. John was a loving husband, proud father and caring friend, who will be missed by many. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Cheryl (Asay) Mack; and son, Ryan S. Mack, both of West Deer Township. In addition to his parents, Seigel B. and Ruth (Buente) Mack; he was preceded in death by his son, Sean R. Mack, who passed away in 2005.
