NEWCOME EDMOND T. “RED” Age 91, previously from Penn Hills and Tarentum, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014, in Aurora, Colorado. Red was the husband of 66 years to Mary Grace who passed away 35 days before him. Red was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. Red was born in Pittsburgh on October 19, 1923, and moved to Penn Hills when he married. Red is survived by his sons, Joseph (LiLi) Newcome of Springdale, and Mark (Kathy) Newcome of St. Albans, WV; his daughter, Juliann (Doug) Duffus of Aurora, CO; his sister, Joan Newcome of Beverly Hills, CA; his daughter-in-law, Teri Newcome of Natrona Heights; his sister-in-law, Marjorie; his grandchildren, Jennifer Newcome, Elizabeth Duffus, Michelle Duffus, Thomas Newcome, Jessica Chiaravalle, Mary Catherine Robinson, Josh (Ashley) Jordon, Jacob Jordon, and Ryan Glynn; his great- grandchildren, Peyton, Kendra, and Alexa; his many nieces and nephews. Red was a WWII veteran, a prolific reader, loved WWII history, bowling, singing and dancing, and an avid Pirates fan. He retired from Columbia Gas Trans. Co after 34 years. Red will be remembered for his bright blue eyes, contagious laugh, wonderful stories, and love of family. A Memorial Service will be held at CHARLES W. AYRES WILLIAM “BILL” STIVER Age 60, of Imperial, on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015, after a long illness endured with tremendous courage. Born Dec. 31, 1954, in Huntingdon, PA. Mr. Ayres graduated Tyrone Area High School in 1972, where he participated in wrestling and varsity football. He was a graduate of Penn State with a degree in Civil Engineering. He began his career working on the construction of the Tyrone Dam and diversion project to mitigate flooding following the damage wrought by Hurricane Agnes. He subsequently worked all over the U.S. and Canada managing large construction projects for Siemens, U.S. Filter, Koppers, Davy Dravo, Kvaener and as far as South Korea for ISSI to supervise pickle line (steel) construction for Posco Steel. He avidly enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting, walking with his dog, Mr. Shin and being outside anywhere anytime. Mr. Ayres was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John A. Ayres and Janet Pelan Ayres. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Fritz Ayres; his sisters, Judith Ayres Daly, husband, John of McLean, VA, Christine Ayres of Orchard Park, NY; brother, John A. Ayres, Jr., wife, Marie (Celmo) of Clearfield; father-in-law, Chuck Fritz, wife, Pat of Orlando, FL; mother-in-law, Mary Cyphert of Turtle Creek; brothers-in-law, Chuck Fritz, wife, Roni of Delmont, Jack Fritz, wife, Lisa Caniglia of Rosslyn Farms; and numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Gallitzin, PA, Sister taught elementary and middle school grades in Alabama, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. She also served as principal, pre-school teacher and librarian at various times, for a total of 59 years in education. She is survived by her sister, Wanda Nigborowicz of Sharon, PA; and by nieces and nephews. EVERETT LAUDRA (PHARES) Passed away at age 96 on Monday, March 30, 2015, in Jacksonville, FL. Laudra was born to Laudra Bissell Wakeman and H.C. Wakeman on April 11, 1918, in Pontiac, MI. She attended the University of Michigan and the Chicago Art Institute. She married Gilbert K. Phares in 1942 and they spent much of their lives in Mt. Lebanon, PA, where they raised three children and were very active in civic and social activities. They later retired to Jacksonville, FL. After Gilbert's death, Laudra was happily married to Harold Everett in 2001 until his passing in 2009. A talented and prolific artist, Laudra was a founding member of the Cypress Village Art League in Jacksonville. Her ageless energy, beauty, kindness and outgoing personality will be sorely missed by her loving family and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Gilbert K. Phares; son, Gilbert W. Phares; husband, Harold Everett; sister, Irene Cleveland; and granddaughter, Christine Laudra Krummrich. She is survived by daughter, Patricia A. Krummrich; son Karl M. Phares; granddaughters, Julia P. Krummrich and Kimberly Phares; and sisters, Virginia Howerth and June Needham. Memorial Services will be Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in Egret hall at Cypress Village (4600 Middleton Park Circle East, Jacksonville), with Rev. Dr. Dave Alexander, presiding, with a reception to immediately follow. All are welcomed to attend. MOONEY MARY ELIZABETH CARTWRIGHT Age 96, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died in her home in Annapolis, Maryland on Friday, March 27, 2015. She was born on August 28, 1918, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania and was the beloved wife of James R. Mooney, who died in Pittsburgh on October 25, 1994. Mary is survived by her son, James E. Mooney; daughter, Mary Clare Mooney; and son-in-law, Charles R. Lotspeich; and daughter, Marilyn Mooney. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews; and their children and grandchildren. Mary enjoyed the wonderful care and companionship of the Ginger Cove Assisted Living community in Annapolis for almost six years. The family would like to thank the amazing staff, caregivers and residents at Ginger Cove for allowing Mary to preserve her independence which she cherished and making her feel safe, secure and loved.
