COFFMAN DONNA J. (SHERBONDY) Of Elizabeth Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Gerald Coffman for 58 years; loving mother of Bruce (Laurie) Coffman, of South Park, and Robin (David) McMasters, of Monroeville; dear grandmother of Lindsey (Max) and Rachael Coffman, Ryan (Kathleen), Sean (Amy), and Kelly McMasters; sister of Karen (James) Potts; and sister-in-law of Donna (Robert) Crosby. Donna devoted her life to providing a warm and loving home to her family, and she was happiest when her beloved grandchildren were around her. She was a gifted singer and pianist, blessing others as she used her talents during her lifelong service to God. Her vibrant personality allowed her to touch lives wherever she went, and she was a caring, compassionate friend to many. She will be dearly missed by her family and a lifetime of friends. Family and friends will be received from to 2-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the L.L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME, INC., Second Street, Smithton. BENEDICT ANDY J. Age 92, of Robinson Twp., died Monday, January 26, 2015. Born January 1, 1923, in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Andy and Katherine V. Benedict. Mr. Benedict was retired from the Parkway West Area Technical School since 1988. He was the husband of Dorothy Pavolko Benedict. In addition to his parents; and son, Damon S.; his sisters, Mrs. Mary Denuzzio, Mrs. Lucille Mendicino; brothers, Damon, Mark, Derry and Benny preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A.; sons, Andy John (Margaret), Michael A. (Vicky), George J., and Jon A. (Rose); four grandchildren, Derek (Lindsay), Max (Whitney), Haley (Nick) Heslip, and Megan (Ryan) Melvin; six great-grandchildren, Milana, Natalia and Jack Benedict, Evelyn, Audrey and Nathan Heslip; also survived by his sister, Lena Maruhnich. Mr. Benedict was a veteran of World War II. He graduated from the Stuttgart Army Air Base Twin-engine Flying School with the Aviation Cadet Class of 44-B. He was a Commissioned Officer and the B-24 Bomber Pilot with the Fifteenth Air Force, based at Manduria, Italy. Mr. Benedict attained the rank of First Lieutenant after flying twenty-three missions over Nazi territory: ranging from Toulon, France in the West; Munich, Germany and Vienna, Austria in the North; and to one of the most heavily defended targets in Europe: the Ploiesti, Romania Oil Fields and Refineries in the East. Mr. Benedict participated in the following battles and campaigns: Southern France, Po Valley, Air Combat Balkans, Rome Arno, Northern Apennines. His decorations and citations included: European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Service Medal, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, World War Two Victory Medal, Chevalier of the Legion of Honor of the French Republic Medal. Mr. Benedict was a member of the 15th Air Force, 450th Bombardment Group, 723rd Squadron Association. Mr. Benedict was active in the community, serving as an umpire in the Robinson Township Boys Baseball League. He was an officer and member of the Robinson Township Water Authority. It was during his tenure that the water treatment plant near Neville Island was built and put into operation. Mr. Benedict was the head of the Bishop Canevin High School Fund Raising Project for Holy Trinity Parish involvement under Reverend Kris Krismalski. After spending sixty years at the graphic arts trade, (he was a member of the International Typographical Union, Local No. 7 for thirty years), Mr. Benedict finished his working career teaching graphic arts at the high school level in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and the Parkway West Area Technical School in North Fayette Township. YOUNG IAN O'NEIL Age 29, of Upper Burrell, formerly of Monroeville, lost his courageous, lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis. Ian was a 2003 Gateway graduate and attended postgraduate courses at CCAC. Ian is survived by his father and stepmother, Allen E. and Georgeann Young; mother and stepfather, Jean E. and Chuck DeSabato; brother, Nolan E. (Kim) Young; stepsister, Heather (Chuck) Sneddon; stepbrother, Seth (Donna) DeSabato; grandfather, William S. O'Neil; grandmother, Natalie J. Young; many loving and supportive aunts, uncles, cousins; and his faithful and much loved canine companion, Penny. Ian was an avid motorcyclist and taught PA MSP motorcycle safety courses. Ian was a founding member of Chi Signs & DeSigns and following that, along with a partner, owned Cycle Control, designing and fabricating after market cycle levers until his health prohibited his participation. Ian was kind of a computer geek and also enjoyed tinkering with his cars. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched, including his CF Family at Children's and Presbyterian Hospitals. GILMAN NEIL ROBERT On January 15, 2015, Neil Gilman, 41, formerly of Pittsburgh and Canonsburg, PA, passed away in San Antonio, Texas after a valiant and courageous fight against cancer. Surviving Neil are his beautiful wife, Sherraine; and two lovely daughters, Caitlin and Leila; his parents, Marilyn Gilman of Pittsburgh and Edward Gilman of Flagstaff, Arizona; brothers, Gary Gilman (Kathy Emery) of Canonsburg and Steven Gilman (Julia) of Erie; and five nieces and nephews. Neil was a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School and Duquesne University, and was employed by the Bexar County, Texas, Juvenile Probation Department for the past several years. He loved water sports and life on Indian Lake with his brothers, friends and family. Neil's humor, wit, kindness, and caring for others made the world he lived in a more beautiful and compassionate place. He is dearly missed, and will always be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
