REED JAMES D. Age 56, of Mt. Washington, on January 16, 2015. Son of Howard M. and Ruth M. (Hammerle); husband of Bertha (Glenn); father of James E.; brother of Linda Sciubba (Ricky), Bob (Renee), Billy (Joanne), the late Howard Reed and Debbie Komoroski (Gary); uncle of Lauren, Paul Kennedy, Bobby, Jessie, Billy, Mikey, Carrie and Kristy Komoroski; great-uncle of Larissa and Arianna Sciubba. Jimmy lost his short but very difficult three-month battle with cancer, surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. He will be remembered for being the most caring and good-hearted father, brother and uncle. He was so kind, fun loving and full of life. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. TURNER MARGARET T. Age 95, of Wheeling, WV, died Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. She was born December 23, 1919, in Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of the late Mike and Kate (Lucko) Mazur. She was catholic by faith and was a former member of St. James Catholic Church in Wilkinsburg, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Turner, Sr.; and two brothers, Stanley Mazur and Mike Mazur. She is survived by one son, George E. (Paulette) Turner, Jr. of Wheeling; two brothers, Ed Mazur, Sr. of PA, and Richard Mazur of California; three grandchildren, Tricia Turner Marchand, Mark Turner, and Eric Turner; and six great- grandchildren. Friends will be received on Thursday, January 29, 2015, from 12 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2:30 p.m at the ALTMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, with Rev. TAKSEL JOSEPH CHARLES Age 67, of Pittsburgh, on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Forbes Hospice. Joe was the son of the late Maurice and Feig Taksel. He grew up in his family's bakery, where he honed his skills in European bread and pastry baking. Joe worked tirelessly his whole life on behalf of animals and the environment. For recreation, he took great pleasure in riding his motorcycles, Moto-Guzzi, Ducati, and finally Harley-Davidson. Joe is survived by his three sisters, Rebecca Taksel, Martha Ruschman, and Elizabeth Beswick; his brother, Myer Taksel; and his very special friend, Rebecca Fenson. Funeral arrangements are private. He was a son of the late Albert J. and Marie Teresa Zihmer, Jr. He was an inspector for the PA Department of Agriculture and was a certified instructor for APICS National. He was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy James Zihmer. He is survived by his brother, Albert J. Zihmer III of North Huntingdon; two sisters, Kim Vockley (Joseph) of Damascus, MD and Beth Ann Burik (Joseph) of Greensburg; nieces and nephews, Christopher, David and Dana Vockley, and Mason Zihmer. GLASS LAWRENCE E. "LARRY" Age 55, of Plum, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 24, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born on August 18, 1959, at Braddock Hospital, a son of the late John J. and Patricia (Mattiko) Glass. He was the loving husband of Carol (Kuehn) Glass and cherished father of Amber E. Glass of Morehead City, NC and Nicholas Glass of Plum. He was stepfather of Katherine E. and Ryan S. Kuehn, both of Monroeville. Larry was also grandfather of Wyatt, son of Katherine. He is survived by his brothers, John J. Glass, Jr., James P. Glass, and Paul E. Glass. He was uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a 1977 graduate of Plum High School and attended Warner University, where he received a B.S. degree in business management. He also earned an A.S. degree in fire science technology. Larry dedicated his life to fire service and was currently Fire Chief of Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department in Plum. He was an advocate in educating children and parents in fire prevention. Larry took great pride and satisfaction in the training, mentoring and development of firefighters so they could better serve the community. He was a member of the International Fire Chiefs' Association and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local #85. He was employed at the Port Authority of Allegheny County as a bus driver and was later promoted to dispatcher. Friends and family will be received 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at MAURICE L. SHERMAN NINA SALAPOW Age 90, formerly of Bellevue and Avalon, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015, at the Ellwood City Hospital. Born August 20, 1924, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Averian and Maria Trochanowska Salapow. She was married to the late Norman Sherman. Mrs. Sherman was a loan officer at Mellon Bank in Bellevue. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the North Pittsburgh Quilters Guild. Survivors include a daughter, Emma (Drue) Fischer of Ellwood City; four sons, Norman (Burdell) Sherman of FL, Tom (Ruthann) Sherman of VA, Jim Sherman of NC, David (Martha) Sherman of Berlin, PA; four siblings, Catherine Didycz, Rose Neiss, Jean Goldbach, and Michael Salapow, all of South Hills; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great- grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Logue.
