CHIARAMONTE CLARE F. Age 89, of Richland Township, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014. Clare was the son of the late James and Mary Chiaramonte; and husband of the late Ruth (Hamilton) Chiaramonte. A WWII Navy veteran, Clare was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Sportsman's Club. He is survived by his two daughters, Virginia "Gini" (Jim) Longwell of Richland Twp. and Judy (Vince) Stunja of West Deer Twp.; five grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren. ERDELJAC MARIE A. (HAJENIC) Age 92, of Oakmont, crossed over peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2014, at Presbyterian Senior Care in Oakmont. Marie was the proud mother of Joseph, Jr. (David Belanger), Robert (Nancy Sloan), Charles (Susan), Mary Catherine (Richard) Lear, Donna Marie Erdeljac and John (Celeste) Erdeljac. Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph, in 1968; her parents, Stephen and Catherine Hajenic; two sisters, Amelia Milcic and Ann Belshock; and her brother, Joseph Hajenic. Marie's delight was her 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Marie was employed by Blaw-Knox Steel and by Tomanetti's Food Products. Marie's vocation was as a loving wife, devoted mother, and awesome Grandma and GG. She created beautiful pieces of ceramic pottery and cross-stitch, enjoyed knitting, and she loved to read suspense novels. Marie was known by family and friends for her hospitable home, sense of humor, beautiful singing voice, and strong character. Her family enjoyed her homemade holiday cookies and delicious pies. Marie was a member of St. Irenaeus Church in Oakmont. CAWLEY CHRISTOPHER DIXON "DICK" Age 96, died peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2014, at his home in Whitehall, of heart disease. Born March 29, 1918, in Pittsburgh to Nora J. Dixon and Francis G. Cawley, Dick was one of five children. He graduated from Peabody High School and attended Duquesne University. In 1946, Dick married Loretta Meredith, who preceded him in death in 2004. Dick was a World War II veteran, serving as a staff sergeant in the 87th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, participating in the campaigns of Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe, and including the Battle of the Bulge. He earned an EAME Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, a Bronze Star Medal, and a Combat Infantry Badge. In addition to his four years of military service, Dick worked for six years at Eastman Kodak and 38 years at Heyl and Patterson. Dick was a member of St. Gabriel Parish in Whitehall for 64 years, where he served as an usher and member of the bingo committee. Over the years, he enjoyed golf, summers at Lake Erie, and Pittsburgh sports, but most of all being with his family. Dick is survived by his four children, Suzanne Cawley (George Greenberger), Robert (Susan) Cawley, Richard (Heath) Cawley (all of Pittsburgh), and Patrick Cawley of Utah; he had seven grandchildren, Erin Cawley, Megan Cawley, Dan Greenberger, Jeremy Greenberger, Corryn Cawley, Claire Cawley, and Meredith Cawley; and two great- grandchildren, Andrew and Adam. LUMPP SISTER FRANCESCA, CSJ Age 89, died Sunday, October 5, 2014, in Villa St. Joseph, Baden, in her 72nd year as a Sister of St. Joseph. The daughter of Raymond and Margaret Dickinson Lumpp, Sister Francesca entered the Congregation from St. Ann Parish, Cleveland, Ohio. For more than 50 years, Sister Francesca ministered in the field of nursing. She served as Nursing Instructor and Director of Nursing at the former St. Joseph Hospital, South Side, from 1951-1963, and as Director of Nursing and Assistant Administrator at Georgetown University Hospital from 1963-1971. She then ministered as Director of Nursing Services at the Catholic Hospital Association in St. Louis from 1971-1974. She was a lecturer at Catholic University, Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago, and had a fellowship in Bioethics at Georgetown University Hospital. After returning to the Pittsburgh area, Sister Francesca served as Supervisor of Nursing and then as Assistant Administrator of John J. Kane Hospital from 1980-83, and as Staff Development Director at John J. Kane Regional Centers from 1991-96. She ministered as Director of Nursing at Villa St. Joseph in Baden and then as Nursing Educator from 1999-2005. She also served in leadership as a Council Member for the Sisters of St. Joseph and a Board Member for Villa St. Joseph. During her years of retirement, Sister continued as a volunteer at Villa St. Joseph and as Board Member Emeritus. As a teacher, Sister Francesca endeavored to influence students to love the profession, to treat people with great dignity, and to be competent, efficient nurses. As a supervisor and an administrator, she continued to instill these same values. Sr. Francesca had a good sense of humor, enjoyed playing scrabble and often recalled, with delight, attending “Madame Butterfly” and Aida at the Carnegie Music Hall. Sister is survived by one brother, William, of Canton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden. Friends will be received Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00-3:30 p.m. at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Motherhouse Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sisters' cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds.
