DEAKIN JOHN H. “JACK” Age 86, of Huntington, widower of M. Jane (Averman) Deakin, passed away Thursday September 4, 2014, at Madison Park Retirement Community, Huntington, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, Huntington, with Father Charles McGinnis, officiating. Entombment will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, in Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, Charleston, WV. He was born October 15, 1927, in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late Francis Ernest and Kathryn Virginia McDowell Deakin. In addition to his parents and wife, a sister, Barbara Deakin Schmitt, also preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University), where he obtained his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. Jack retired as Vice President of Environmental Affairs with Columbia Gas System Companies in December of 1991 after 40 years of service. He and Jane had lived formerly in Cumberland, MD, Pittsburgh, PA, Charleston, WV, Hurricane, WV, and Barboursville, WV. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral in Charleston, and Ascension Catholic Church of Hurricane. He was an active member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA), former President of the Kanawha Kordsman in Charleston, WV and member of the Thunder Tones chorus in Huntington, WV. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Robert Dabecco of Columbus, OH; six sons and four daughters-in-law, John H. "Jack" Deakin, Jr. and wife Trisha of Huntington, Richard G. and Darcy Deakin of Ambridge, PA, Paul F. and Lori Deakin of Cecil, PA, Edward J. Deakin of Ann Arbor, MI, Christopher M. and Linda Deakin of Columbus, OH, and James P. Deakin of Bridgeville, PA; a brother, Philips T. Deakin of Pittsburgh, PA; 13 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. His family sends special thanks to the staff at Madison Park Retirement Community for their excellent comfort and care. CHIFF ANN “SALLY” Ann, age 93, of McDonald, Mt. Pleasant Twp., died Monday, September 8, 2014, in her home. She was born August 20, 1921, in Primrose, a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Bassar) Meriage. Mrs. Chiff was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Midland, PA and Ladies Auxiliary of McDonald VFW and SNPJ of Midway. She was previously employed as a cashier at the Joseph Horne Co. Duchak; daughter of Joseph Funtal and the late Dorothy (Waldschmidt) Funtal; beloved mother of Kaela (Josh) Meyers and Hannah Miller; stepmother of Ryan Duchak, Adam Duchak, and Whitney (James) McKenna; sister of Michael and Joseph Funtal and the late James Funtal; sister-in-law of Douglas Duchak and the late Dean Duchak; dear grandmother of Jackson Meyers; and step-grandmother of Morgan, Connor and Case McKenna. Vera had a strong spirit and over the past six years with stage four cancer, she never once held back in living life to the fullest. URCH MARTY M. (MAXWELL) Age 71, of Plum, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014. Beloved wife of William A. Urch; loving mother of Scott E. Urch (Ann) and Jennifer Urch Mitchell (Dale); grandmother of Jeffrey Urch, Amanda Mitchell, Samantha Urch, and Austin Mitchell. She was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Mary (Kislig) Maxwell. Marty's full time job was to take care of her family and, most recently, to spoil her grandchildren. In between, she worked at the Harmarville Rehabilitation Center and the Easter Seals, retiring in 2005. She was a 7-year kidney transplant survivor and was always very grateful to her donor. SWEENEY BONNIE R. Age 73, of Highway 285, Conneaut Lake, PA, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014. Born July 19, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Edward Joseph and Nancy Covington Roos. She married Edward D. Sweeney. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2009. She was a 1959 graduate of South Hills High School, Pittsburgh. She was employed by PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, from 1963 to 1999. She previously worked at DEP in Meadville, Pymatuning State Park, the Census Bureau, and at Wal-Mart. She was of the Catholic Faith and enjoyed traveling with her friends. Survived by a daughter, Tracey L. Weber and husband, Keith A. Weber, of Conneaut Lake; four grandchildren, Nikki Weber and partner, Timothy Schmidt, Jr., Kerry Weber and partner, Brian Feeney, all of Pittsburgh, Megan Weber and Keith E. Weber, both of Conneaut Lake; two great-grandchildren, Kyrsten Feeney and Brayden Feeney of Pittsburgh; a brother, Edward Roos of Pittsburgh. Cherished husband of Elizabeth A. (Klein) Renckly for 68 wonderful years; loving father of Ron (MaryLou) Renckly of Southport, NC, Joe Renckly of Pittsburgh, PA, Susan (Bob) Foley of Cranberry Twp., PA, Ellen Dolegowski of Louisville, Kentucky; grandfather of six and great- grandfather of three. Gene was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army as a staff sergeant to the Army Port Commander at Guadalcanal. He worked his entire career with Block Brothers of Wheeling, WV, retiring in 1980 as Regional Sales Manager. Gene was a skilled bridge player and was known as "Director" for 25 years, running the Tuesday morning Silver Tops duplicate bridge at Pine Creek and Baierl YMCA. He was a longtime usher at St. Alexis Church in Wexford and most recently a member of St. Ferdinands Church in Cranberry Twp. MAURHOFF HENRIETTA ELIZABETH AUEL September 8, 2014, age 92, of Cabot, PA. Beloved wife of the late Elmer Maurhoff; dear mother of William Maurhoff and Norma DiMartino; dear sister of the late Emma Auel and Ruth Ann Cerny. Henrietta was adored and admired by all who were blessed to have known her. She was a beautiful Christian example to all, especially her children, their spouses, Linda Maurhoff and Lawrence DiMartino; her six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She had a gentle kindness about her and used her time and talents to honor the Lord. Her grandchildren remember her best for her bible lessons each summer at the cottage. Her community appreciated her service in many organizations, including the Lutheran Woman's Missionary League, where she served as president, and the 24 years she served on the board at Concordia Lutheran Home. Gram, we are so saddened to have to say goodbye but joyful in the knowledge that you are at peace with the Lord and reunited with Pap and your loved ones that have gone before you. We love you and are comforted in the knowledge that we will be reunited again some day. VICCARI VIRGINIA “JAYE” BARRY Age 82, of Beaver, died Friday, September 5, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley, Beaver, surrounded by her family. Born July 7, 1932, in Ellwood City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Rose Orrico DeCaria and had been a resident of Beaver for the past ten years. A member of the SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Beaver, she formerly had worked in advertising for the Ellwood City Ledger, and previously for WFEM in Ellwood City. Other than her family, her greatest passion was to dance, having belonged to several dance groups including the Merry Makers. She loved jazz music, reading, and traveling, and she was a 50 year member of the Card Club Ladies. Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were her former husband, Samuel J. L. Barry in 2003; two brothers, Vito and Joseph DeCaria; and two sisters, Angeline Manning and Carmela “Toots” DeLoia. She is survived by her son, Samuel J. Barry, Las Vegas, NV; two daughters, Lisa (Raymond Silak) Kusen of Imperial and Toni (Dave) DeDominicis of New Sewickley; two brothers, James “Sabu” DeCaria in Michigan and Anthony “Bobo” DeCaria of Ellwood City; three sisters, Teresa “Tessie” Russo of New Castle, Rose Marie (Bob) Green of Michigan, and Amy (Tom) Shaffer of Virginia; five step-grandchildren, three great-step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
