C. BLAINE CARPENTER Age 77, of Gibsonia, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020, in UPMC St. Margaret Hospital. Born on January 21, 1943, he was the son of the late Charles B. and Marion Carpenter of Johnstown, PA. Blaine was a graduate of Lindsay Wilson, Jr. College, West Virginia Wesleyan College, Marshall University, and The University of Cincinnati, where he earned a Ph.D. in Biology. As a biology professor, he first taught at Bethany College in West Virginia and later at Clayton State College in Georgia. He became an early advocate of Distance Learning and ultimately served as the Director of Educational Services at Georgia Public Broadcasting TV in Atlanta. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society. Blaine is survived by his wife Kathleen (Budzak) Carpenter of 48 years and he will be missed by many in the fellowship. RICHARD ALLEN POLLARD Age 73, of Upper St. Clair, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 18, 2020. Dick was the beloved husband of 32 years to Susan (Compton) Pollard; loving father of Christopher (Desiree) Pollard, Laura (Brian) Okerberg, Jean Pollard, and Mary Pollard; grandfather of Reed, Cole, Emmett, Gwen, Rimma, Emma, and Anastasia; brother of William (Kathy) Pollard, Robert (Kellan) Pollard, and the late Ernest Pollard, and Jeannette Pollard; son of the late Ernest and Mary (Kennedy) Pollard. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dick was a proud Penn State Alumnus, with a wide-ranging career beginning at Pittsburgh National Bank (now PNC) in commercial credit, while completing law school at night at Duquesne University. Dick's law practice concentrated on commercial banking and bankruptcy law with several Pittsburgh firms, including Pietragallo, Bosick, and Gordon, and his own firm Pollard, Walker and Vollmer. A sought-after speaker, he gave hundreds of presentations before business, legal and religious audiences and served on the faculty of several banking schools where he taught commercial lending, banking law and ethics for over 30 years. In addition, he lectured on many diverse subjects from Scottish and American history to Christianity and Islam. Dick authored a book All That Really Matters---a chronological compilation of history beginning with Genesis through the events of today. He was ordained an Episcopal priest in 2004, and served at several churches including St. Paul's Mt. Lebanon, Christ Church North Hills, and All Saints, a successful church he planted in 2009. Dick was a dedicated Scot, with a love of all things Scottish and a member of the St. Andrew's Society of Philadelphia, as well as founding president and member of the St. Andrew's Society of Pittsburgh. Dick dearly loved his children and grand-children, his dogs, his cars, and his beer. He was a friend to allloving, loyal, patient, caring, and kind. PAUL T. MRVOS Age 76, of Collier Township, passed away peacefully at his home in Kirwan Heights on Friday, September 18, 2020. Born June 28, 1944, he was the son of the late Samuel Mrvos, Jr., and Betty J. (Sibert) Mrvos. A 1962 graduate of Chartiers Valley High School and life-long resident of the area, Paul earned an Associate Degree in Fire Science from the Community College of Allegheny County. He retired from the Allegheny County Fire Department. He also served the Kirwan Heights Fire Department for several years, achieving the rank of Captain. He also retired from the Pennsylvania State Liquor Control System. A member of the Ukrainian Club of Carnegie and Serbian Club of South Side, he enjoyed sports (an avid tennis player, baseball player and umpire). Paul is survived by his brothers Joseph S. Mrvos and his wife, Rita of Dormont, and David A. Mrvos and his wife, Marylou of Scott Twp.; and nephew, Samuel A. Mrvos and wife, Alyssa; and great-nephew, Martin J. of Damascus, Md. Sandy was born at the Ohio Valley hospital in Pittsburgh on June 29, 1965. She was the beloved wife of Jason Shallenberger; the loving daughter of Kathy (Grier) and step-father, Edward Adamski, and her father Robert (Bob) Bianco; the treasured mother of four children, Matthew Garrubba, Nicole Metzgar, Julie Garrubba and Tena Garrubba, all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a loving sister to Gary Bianco (Tina); and a loving grandmother to Victor Garrubba and Vincent Glatz. Sandy is also survived by her mother-in-law, Sherry Shallenberger, her father-in-law, Richard Van Buren, and his children, Tammy and David Van Buren; her step-mother-in-law, Vaun Zell (Cox) Shallenberger; three sisters-in-law, Amber Maurer (Kofi) of Murray, Utah, Moriah Pease (Jeremy), of Kaysville, Utah and Carrie Acker (Jeffrey) of Linesville, Pennsylvania; her first husband; three step-daughters and two step-sons and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Sandy loved her family and especially treasured her life-long friendship with her beloved cousin, Angel (Bianco) Efferin. Sandy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Harry and Kitty Grier; her paternal grandparents, Adele and John Bianco; her step-grandparents, Edward and Peggy Adamski and her father-in-law, David Shallenberger. Sandy was a warm and loving person who was known for her good-natured personality and her contagious laughter and smile. She loved spending time with her family and friends, playing bingo and visiting Las Vegas. Sandy graduated in 1984 from Brashear High School in Pittsburgh and was a stay-at-home mom for many years, operating a daycare in her home. For the past 25 years, Sandy was employed by PNC Bank as a Collection Specialist, until her recent illness. Sandy met her husband, Jason Shallenberger, 18 years ago and they were married 12 years ago, in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 20, 2008. They both loved Las Vegas and have vacationed there many times over the past 18 years. She leaves behind her children, Caterina (Francesco) Mancuso, Angelina Trombetta, Pasquale Trombetta. Teresa will be lovingly missed by her grandchildren, Cecilia Mancuso, Teresa (Daniel) Erb, Linda (William) Connolly, Lucia Mancuso, Frank (Michele) D'Ambrosio, Teresa (Cole) Mortellaro, and Louis D'Ambrosio (Joshua Allen). He is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Elaine) Deakins and daughter, Mary Lee (Chuck) Wetmore and his two grandsons who he adored, Derek Deakins and Mark Wetmore. He is also survived by Joanne's children, Chuck (Lynn) Law, Bob (Paige) Law, and Kathy (Roger) Danovich and grandchildren, Chris (Jamie) McKnight, Scott (Danielle) McKnight, and Katie McKnight, and three great-grandchildren. He retired in 1989 from Westinghouse in Cheswick and was a 50 year member of the Oakmont Elks Lodge 1668, and also a 60 year member of Verona Lodge 548. Blake was an avid gardener and Pittsburgh sports fan. He also enjoyed golfing and volunteered at several US Opens. Blakely will be especially remembered for his outgoing personality. He was a friend to all he met. PATRICIA ANN (KELLY) McKILLOP-GATTO Age 90, of Monroeville, passed away on September 19, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Robert Kenneth McKillop and the late Joseph A. Gatto. Loving mother of Robert (the late Monika) McKillop, Mark McKillop, and Todd (Debbie) McKillop. Cherished grandmother of Bobby (Staci), Chris (Terresia), and Scott (Lauren) McKillop; and great-grandmother of Ava, Bobby, Taylen, Crew, Harper, and Weston; also survived by her sister, Mary "Pudge" Kelly. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary (Spiegel) Kelly; sister, Shirley; and brother, Chuck, Jr. Patricia worked for many years as a school bus driver for the Gateway School District and as a sales clerk for PA Wine and Spirits. She was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Monroeville and was active in the Monroeville Senior Citizens Center group, the Mad Hatters. In her free time, she loved to crotchet especially hats, gloves and afghans which she often gifted to her family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes was making candy with her sister out of their basement, which they would sell to others during the holidays. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL) 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747). DAVID A. KREISEL Of Castle Shannon, on Saturday, September 19, 2020, the day after he turned 63. Devoted son of the late Carl J. and Shirley (Hanlon) Kreisel; beloved husband for 42 years of Virginia Ginny (Welle) Kreisel; loving father of Virginia K. Kreisel; only brother of Carl J. (Cindy) Kreisel; cherished uncle of Brian (Anna) Kreisel, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Kreisel and Kathryn (Jack) Ryan; also survived by many great-nieces and nephews; not to mention his furry friends, Penny and Molly. Dave was a lifetime member with over 40 years of service in the Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department and he earned the distinguished honor, Fireman of the Year in 1988. Dave also was very involved with the Castle Shannon Holiday Food Giving Program. He had recently retired as Meat Manager at Shop N Save. Friends will be welcomed at the Castle Shannon Firemen's Hall, 3600 Library Road (Route 88), Castle Shannon, on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the Firemen and Auxiliary Service at 7:00 o'clock. A Service will be held in The Firemen's Hall on Thursday (time later). If desired, memorials may be made to the Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department or the Castle Shannon Holiday Food Giving Program.
