JACK LLOYD ELLENBERGER Age 72, of North Versailles died on August 13, 2020, the result of a traumatic brain injury. He received two Purple Hearts, while serving in the U.S. Army, as a Vietnam combat infantry soldier. Born February 6, 1948, the older son of the late Harry J. and Bernadine (Stalowski) Ellenberger. He is survived by his loving “college babe” and wife of 52 years, Sharon (Wolden). He raised and is survived by three wonderful children, Kristin (Dr. Jim) Richards, Jocelyn (Jeff) Bell, and Jack (Michelle) Ellenberger. Jack is survived by and so very proud of his eight grandchildren, Coleman and Caroline Richards, Jennings, Greyson and Charlotte Bell, and Alexi, Leo and Julian Ellenberger. He's also survived by his most caring and loving step-father, Ted (Pap Z) Zarichansky; his sister, Donna Lee (Louie) Paulisick, brother, Darryl “D.J.” Ellenberger, brother-in-law, Tom (Linda) Wolden, sister-in-law, Sue (Ray) Pecoraro; his aunt, Esther (Joe) DeLeo; six nieces, nine nephews, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, tons of cousins, and wonderful friends and neighbors. He graduated from Westinghouse Memorial HS in Wilmerding, and in his own words and intended humor...”Started off at Penn State, but at the end of my sophomore year my grades had slipped (due to the previously mentioned college babe, and Alpha Sigma Phi's exceptional social life) to the point that PSU suggested I take a term off, and increase my GPA thru ‘correspondence courses'. That's when my luck really changed for the better. I was out of school for only a short period, when out of the blue I get this great job offer from the U.S. GOVT.. It was only a two year assignment, but it included room and board, 30 days paid vacation per year, and all tuition costs paid in full. It doesn't get any better than that!! ..... Now comes the best part. After 12 months of tough classes, I became eligible for INTERNATIONAL STUDIES abroad. Again, an all expenses paid assignment for 12 months. I was off to Southeast Asia to study “cultural differences”. How lucky can one person be !! It's great to live in America, but it's also nice to be on the “right side of the grass” Jack went on to earn a B.S. in business from University of Pittsburgh, at night while working at Westinghouse East Pittsburgh, then worked as business manager for car dealerships, retiring as a sales supervisor at Comcast. He had great neighbors and made so many friends through work, as an avid golfer, softball player, bowler and pool shark, while involved in all his children's activities, and as a member of the VFW and American Legion. He loved music, the beach, travel, working in his yard, having parties, organizing golf outings, yearly Oglebay gatherings, and the list goes on. With his outlandish story-telling, he kept us on our toes and always laughing. He lived a very full life and was very loved, respected and appreciated. He was our hero. In an effort to curtail community spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), a private family visitation will be held at Forgie Snyder Funeral Home, 1032 Broadway, East McKeesport, 412-823-8083. Everyone is invited to view the funeral service on Wednesday, August 19th at noon via live streaming from St. John's Lutheran Church, North Versailles, on Facebook at (facebook.com/stjohnnorthversailles). Facebook membership is not required. Private interment with military honors will take place at Grandview Cemetery in North Versailles. Memorial contributions can be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America at www.vva.org, the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or your local VFW or American Legion. JERRY MICHAEL COZEWITH On August 15, 2020, Jerry Michael Cozewith passed from this earthly world as he entered it, with a loving heart and a hopeful spirit. Jerry is reunited in death with his dad and mom, Bernard and Mildred Cozewith, and brother, Steven. His loving family, wife Rosemary Wallace Cozewith, children Jessica Rose and Bret Michael, Bret's wife Ana, Jerry's adoring grandson Benjamin, and Jerry's sister Robyn Dalessandro and husband Dennis, along with a long list of extended family and friends, can all testify to the shining beacon of light Jerry's life has been, always focused on using his gifts and blessings to make the world a better place. Always the Jersey boy from Bayonne at heart, he completed a master's degree in Social Work at Temple University in Philadelphia and headed to Salt Lake City with Rosemary, the love of his life. There he began his American Red Cross career as Director for Services to Military Families and Veterans and Director of Emergency Social Services. His 22 years with the Red Cross also included Executive Director positions in Syracuse, NY and in Pittsburgh, PA where he oversaw the Red Cross response to the 9/11 Flight 93 crash in Somerset County. Jerry's non-profit business, Entrepreneuring Youth, partnered with educators, parents and youth development professionals, to provide entrepreneurial and business creation training in an effort to engage at-risk middle and high school students in learning. Jerry believed that positive change in the community required providing opportunity for individuals to develop and prosper. His gift for motivational public speaking made him an oft requested speaker at Leadership Greater Syracuse, a non-profit dedicated to inspiring current leaders and preparing future leaders to make a difference in the communities in which they work and live. He used his talents for fund raising and public speaking while serving on Boards of Directors of non-profits that reflected these same beliefs, including ABC House Consortium for Children's Services, Elmcrest Children's Center, Rotary, Spanish Action League, United Way Campaign, Athena Awards Program of Greater Pittsburgh and Urban Pathways K-5 Charter School. His contribution as Director of Development at Sarah Heinz House, a youth organization dedicated to empowering youth to 'Love, Laugh, Learn', was his last professional effort. Jerry loved the physical and mental discipline of outdoor activities especially skiing, long distance running and golf. He delighted in using his beautiful tenor singing voice, and an ever-present gift for puns and quick wit to lighten hearts. Over the years Jerry had shared he would have loved owning a fine restaurant where great food was the accompaniment to love, laughter and the companionship of family and friends gathering together - the perfect combination of his favorite things. But above all else Jerry found his joy in his family and his boundless love for them. In his 67 years, Jerry's ever positive outlook, resolute discipline and belief in people shaped his life. We cherish the memories we have of Jerry and thank him for his life of dedicated service and for the love he gave so freely. The family thanks everyone for their sympathy and kind support. A private memorial is planned at a future date. Donations in memoriam can be made to Sarah Heinz House, 1 Heinz Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, www.sarahheinzhouse.org Arrangements with GEORGE A. WILLIAM STEPHEN COHEN Passed away on August 14, 2020, after a six-year heroic battle with multiple myeloma. He was born on April 15, 1949. Bill was raised in Pittsburgh, the son of Sidney and Esther Fay Cohen, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Communications. Raised in a musical and artistic family, his passion for photography led to an early career in that field. He was a gifted painter with a compelling and personally expressive style. Bill enjoyed attending Pittsburgh Symphony concerts followed by dinners with his wife, Judy Greenwald Cohen. Bill was a proud partner and supporter of Judy's extensive involvement and leadership in both local and national Jewish organizations. The work that Judy continues to do in the non-profit community was important to them both and a great source of pride for Bill. Bill was an avid runner, having completed more than 30 marathons. He enjoyed a range of sports and outdoor activities, including cycling, racquetball, hiking and golfing. His interest in sports extended to his hometown teams. He was an enthusiastic follower of the University of Pittsburgh football and basketball teams, Pittsburgh Pirates baseball, Steelers football and Penguins hockey. He followed all the games, and the first thing he turned to each morning in the newspaper was the sports page. Bill also enjoyed the study of World War II history, his home filled with many books on this and other subjects that interested him. In his later years, he developed a special interest in watching everything from documentaries on history to science fiction and dramas. Bill was a perfectionist in the best sense of that word, and he used his talent for fixing things to attack whatever he saw that needed improvement. No job he ever started was left undone. Bill was a successful businessman and entrepreneur in multiple fields, though family and close friends were always his life's priority. Judaism and its traditions remained a guiding light throughout his life. Bill enjoyed 22 years with his love, Judy. He had a special and adoring relationship with his stepson, Joshua Kuznetsov, whom he loved since the first time they met. He was a devoted and committed parent and a partner to Judy in raising Josh. In addition to his wife, Judy, and stepson, Joshua, Bill is survived by his loving sister, Judy Cohen Wall (Irwin Wall), and niece, Rachel Lisa Joseph. Additionally, Bill is survived by brothers-in-law, Bruce Greenwald (Leslie Greenwald), Dan Greenwald; niece, Rachel Greenwald; nephew, Elliot Greenwald; and dear cousins near and far. Close friends, like his family, will miss his engaging conversation, goodness of heart, commitment to his family and artist's sense of style in all things. Special thanks to the many people, including his doctors, PAs and nurses at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center who cared for him through the years of his illness, and to the Siskind family, who were always there for him and his family. Funeral services are private. Please honor Bill and Judy's lifelong support of others. Contributions may be made to the Jewish Cemetery and Burial Association of Greater Pittsburgh (www.jcba.org) or the 21 and Able program of the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania (uwswpa.org---earmark it for the 21 and Able program). Arrangements entrusted to RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC., family owned and operated. www.schugar.com Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
