PATRICIA IGNELZI Mrs. Patricia “Pat/Noni” Ignelzi (née Knapp) died peacefully on January 24, 2020 in Pittsburgh, PA at the age of 94. Pat is survived by her husband, Armand “Buster”; four children, Noreene, Philip (Marianne), Sharon Ham (James), and Armand (Sarah); her ten grandchildren, Arthur Antram (Kim), Matthew Antram (Patricia), Sarah Baney (Derrick), Kirsten Ham, Alaina, Maria, Morgan Ham, Armand, Brittan Ham, and Greta; and great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Marks and Millie Antram. She is preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Anthony “Fatty” Knapp; Aunt Margaret Neel, and children Charlotte and Ronald. Charlotte, her first child died at the age of 10 months and Ronald her second child died at the age of 9 months. It was Pat's strong, abiding Catholic faith which allowed her to bear the cross of the loss of her first two children. Pat was born on May 16, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Josephine and Anthony “Fatty” Knapp. She married her high school sweetheart Armand “Buster”, a World War II Veteran and plumber. Married on January 14,1947 they recently celebrated 73 years of marriage. Viewing is scheduled Monday & Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC, 7720 Perry Hwy., Pgh, PA 15237. JOHN J. JOYCE "JACK" Peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2020, age 87, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Braddock. Jack was the son of the late John and Mary Joyce. Devoted husband of the late Mileva “Eve” (Radjenovich) Joyce; loving father of Jack, Tommy and Jeanne; proud pap of Erica Joyce Bacco, Stephanie (Christopher) Alberti, Monica Joyce and Matthew Joyce; adoring pap pap of Silvia Jon Alberti. He is also survived by his sister, Lois O'Neal, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and all who loved him. Jack was preceded in passing by his siblings, Marilyn Glade, Lou Youse, Peggy Grout and Eileen Miele and in laws; Ken, Roberta (surviving Al) Gates, Mildred (late Milan) Devich and Don. PASTOR RAYMOND E. PATTERSON Age 89, of Delmont (formerly of Oakmont) passed away peacefully at his residence with family by his side on Thursday, January 23, 2020. Son of the late Charles and Margaret (Confer) Patterson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria L. Patterson who passed away in 2004. Husband for 15 years of Dorothy “Dottie” Patterson. Beloved father of Mark (CruzMary) Patterson of Verona, Cathy (the late Pastor Greg) Blythe of Tarentum, Laurie (Gunner) Saxon of Oakmont, Lise (Amos) Stoltzfus of Holtwood, PA, Daniel (Laurie) Patterson of Oakmont, Thomas (Anissa) Kane of Sacramento, CA, and Darlene Elizabeth (Michael) Gallagher of Sharpsburg, PA. Grandfather of 21 and great-grandfather of 11. Brother of Elaine (the late William) Davis of Westmoreland County, Gary (Phyllis) Patterson of Irwin, Linda (David) Joseph of Latrobe, Cheryl (the late George) Lenhart of Butler, and the late Russell (Helen) Patterson, and Edward Patterson. Brother-in-law of Jean Patterson. Pastor Ray was saved at the age of 18 and then attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. He served at Beulah Baptist Church in West Elizabeth before coming to Oakmont in 1963 to pastor Oakmont Baptist Church. He then was the founder and Pastor at Dayspring Christian Center and Dayspring Bible Training Center in Tarentum, and also was the founder of Cheswick Christian Academy. After retirement, he was a consulting Pastor Emeritus at Grace Life Church in Monroeville, and enjoyed becoming an artist. Ray was a missionary to 52 different countries, and an author of several books. The family held a private viewing and burial. ESTELLE GOULD Age 90, of Bethel Park, on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Jay B. Gould; loving mother of John Jay Gould (Monica) of Union City, California and Jennifer Gould of Wallingford, PA; daughter of the late John and Martha Cummings Demas; sister of the late Joan (Harry) Andrews, sister of the late Nick Demas; sister-in-law of Sandi Demas; and grandmother of Damon and Allison; great-grandmother of Cameron, Camilla and Camden. Estelle attended Schenley High School and graduated from South Hills High School class of 1947. Her first job was in advertising, but soon moved into broadcasting and was employed by The Hearst Corporation and WTAE-TV, Channel 4 for more than 36 years. She was one of the very first employees hired by WTAE, six days after it first began broadcasting on September 14, 1958. Estelle was a pioneer in the television industry, and had an impact in broadcasting nationally for The Hearst Corporation. She was considered a trailblazer for women in the industry and mentored countless women and men in and out of the industry. There will be a memorial to celebrate her life on Saturday, February 15th from Noon - 3 p.m. at the St. Clair Country Club at 2300 Old Washington Road, Upper Saint Clair. JOHN LOUIS VOLPE. JR. Age 60, of West View, PA and Sanford, FL, died peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Kelly Hollander; devoted father of Sabrina Volpe (Ross Gilchriest), dear friend and companion Cynthia Surace -Volpe; son of the late John Louis Volpe and Dorothy (Hardin) Volpe; dear brother of Louis (Peggy) Volpe, Guy (Karen) Volpe, and Kathy (Martin) DeRoy. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. John attended Serra Catholic High School and the University of Pittsburgh; he retained a curious, joyful and adventurous spirit throughout his life. He cherished his relationship with daughter, Sabrina. Joh also loved travel, good food, and lively conversation. He spent more than 30 years in the Pittsburgh food scene: his “In the Bean” espresso carts at local hospitals and Three Rivers Stadium, along with an organic café, were considered innovative at the time and enabled lifelong community relationships. RICHARD STEPHEN FAESSEL Richard Stephen Faessel, 33, of Oakdale; formerly of Burgettstown, passed away on Fri., January 24, 2020 from injuries sustained in a hit and run accident in Pittsburgh. He was born on July 23, 1986, a son of Richard F. Faessel of Steubenville and Brenda Bombard of Joffre. Richard attended West Allegheny School District. Surviving in addition to his parents are his two children, Richard Stephen Faessel, Jr. and Abigail Renee Makowiecki; his brother, Roger Bombard of Imperial; maternal grandparents, Franklin and Gundi Bombard of Oakdale; a niece Madison Bombard; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. PAUL ANTHONY SAMMARTINO Age 85, of Cranberry Twp., formerly of Bethel Park, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2020, surrounded by his loved ones. Born March 5, 1934 in Pizzoferrato Chieti, Italy, son of the late Alfonso and Emilia (Casciato) Sammartino. Beloved husband of Victoria (Ognibene) Sammartino, whom he married December 28, 1963; loving father of Paul (Krista) Sammartino, Lisa (Andrew) Watznauer and Mark (Lori) Sammartino; papa of Zachary, Paris, Sofia, and Maria; dear brother of Mary (Amergo) DiMatteo, and the late Bruno (surviving Carol) Sammartino and many nieces and nephews. Simply said, Paul was a man of tremendous character. His honor, honesty, and compassion will be forever carried on by those he leaves behind. He was the Patriarch of his family, and will be deeply missed by so many. He loved to travel the world with his loving wife, Victoria, and was extremely proud of the family they raised together. One of his greatest passions was spending time with his grandchildren. Paul selflessly served for our freedoms in the United States Army. His vocation and avocation was teaching children with special needs. JAMES ALAN GRIMM, JR. "JIM" James Alan Grimm, Jr. (Jim), age 63, of Cranberry Township, passed away on January 17, 2020, after a more than two-year battle with Leiomyosarcoma. He is survived by his wife, Nicole Brophy; sons, Tyler Grimm and Elliot Grimm; former wife and friend, Denise Grimm-Fornof and her husband, Jim Fornof; parents, Jim and Joan Grimm; sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Glen Murray; and niece and husband, Sarah and Danny Wall and a devoted CLC men's group. Jim graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. He brought passion, kindness, and gratitude to every moment of his life. The joy of his life was his children. He loved God, was active at his church, devoted to his men's group, found peace in the mountains, being creative in his woodshop and behind his camera or computer. He was an avid reader and lover of history, politics, and music. He found true joy in making sacrifices for his family and friends, who are all better people for having known him. DONALD LEPIANE Donald Lepiane, formerly of Jefferson Hills, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at the age of 85 in Fairfax, Virginia. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gloria Lepiane, to whom he was married for 57 years. He was a loving father to Adriene (Lepiane) Hanlon; a devoted father-in-law to Brian Hanlon; and a cherished grandfather to Emmett Hanlon. Don was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in Hazelwood. He served in the United States Army as a medic. He subsequently attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he met his beloved wife Gloria. He graduated from Pitt with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering and worked as a metallurgical engineer at Western Electric. While employed at Western Electric, Don was granted three United States patents and several foreign patents. One of his inventions is recognized at the Smithsonian Institute as an important development in integrated circuit technology. After being involved in the patent application process as an inventor, Don was interested in becoming a patent attorney, an interest he passed on to his daughter. Don attended the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and remained a dedicated alumnus throughout his life. Upon receiving his Juris Doctor degree from CUA, Don worked as a patent attorney at PPG Industries. He retired from PPG Industries in 2001 as Patent Counsel for Glass with responsibility for domestic and foreign intellectual property matters of the glass business units. After retirement, Don could not walk away from patent prosecution and continued part-time work at PPG Industries and was Of Counsel at the Webb Law Firm. In addition to his work in patent law, Don did pro bono work in domestic violence cases representing battered men and women. Don was a member of the Supreme Court of the United States, Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, District of Columbia, and Pennsylvania bars. Don was a longtime lector and parishioner at St. Thomas a Becket Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Italian Sons and Daughters of America. He loved watching movies and made amateur movies of his world travels with Gloria. He cherished his time with family and friends. He enjoyed nothing more than being with his wife, talking about patent law with his daughter and son-in-law, and spending time with his beloved grandson. He had the biggest heart and will be missed tremendously. Visitation will be held at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh 15236, on Thursday, January 30, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas a Becket Catholic Church, 139 Gill Hall Road, Jefferson Hills 15025, on Friday, January 31, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at the Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, 401 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh 15236, on January 31, following the mass.
