LEONARD A. LISCIO, JR. It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Leonard A. Liscio, Jr, of Plum Boro, PA announce his passing after a long and courageous battle, at the age of 62. Predeceased by his beloved Dad, Leonard A. MARKOS J. XENAKIS, JR. Age 43, of Pittsburgh, suddenly passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Beloved son of Markos (Cindi) Xenakis and JoAnne Micale; loving brother of Alaina (Max) Stockhausen; treasured uncle of Cole and Lane Stockhausen; cherished grandson of Milly Micale and the late Joe Micale, and the late Molly and James Xenakis; adored nephew of Mike (Ronnie) Xenakis, Tina (Simon) Koutoufaris, and Ronnie (Dean) Stambolis; caring great-nephew of Jerry (Ken) Smith. Also survived by many loving cousins and extended family. Markos was a graduate of The Kiski Prep School and Robert Morris University. He was a longtime employee as an Auditor for the State Treasurer. Markos was loved by many. He was always able to light up any room and always so full of energy. MARGARET C. "PEG" (MONAHAN) ECKERT Age 85, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Friendship Village of South Hills. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Raymond; her son, David; brothers, James and Joseph; and sister, Mary. She is survived by her children, Robert (Gina) of Cranberry Township, PA, Tricia (Dave) Steffan of Utila, Honduras, Elaine (Larry) Gegel of Relay, MD, Susan (Kevin) Rettger of Bethel Park, PA, and Maureen (Bill) Maiden of Swedesboro, NJ; her grandchildren, Kelsey and Lindsey Eckert, David (Kelly) Steffan, April (Roy) O'Sullivan, Ryan and Kristina Rettger, and Billy (fiancee Molly), Michelle, and Kristen Maiden; her siblings, Paul (Grace), Dorothy “Dot”, and Kathleen; and many nieces and nephews. She was much loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Peg grew up in Philadelphia and attended Hallahan High School. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ray Eckert. Immediately after their wedding, they moved to Pittsburgh, and Ray started to work at Westinghouse. Peg's family and faith were her guiding stars and helped her craft a life full of love, joy, and humor. Laughter was always present in her home. Peg and Ray were longtime parishioners at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church. Peg volunteered at St. Elizabeth Grade School for many years and helped with newsletters and yearbooks and was a regular volunteer at the Church Spring-a-Rama festival. She was an incredible seamstress who made her family's clothes (including suits, bridal gowns, and bridesmaid dresses), curtains for her home, and award-winning Halloween costumes. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, knitting, decorating cakes, doing crossword puzzles, and going to concerts and musical shows. Peg moved to Friendship Village in her later years and made many friends there. She enjoyed watching the birds from the warmth and comfort of her apartment. Her family would like to thank the staff at Friendship Village for the love and care she received while there. Family and friends will be received at JOHN F. JEROME D. BRANDY QUIRINO BRANDIMARTI Age 91, of Ingram, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2020. Born on April 11, 1928 in Sheraden, he graduated from Langley High School. As a young entrepreneur, he started Brandi Cleaners with his brother, the late Herman Brandimarti in 1948 and was inducted in the armed services in 1951. He married Rita Mareno and raised a family while continuing to grow the business. After selling it in the mid-nineties, he was employed with Novelty Advertising Company, selling novelties and winning several Top Salesman awards. Jerome is survived by his loving children: Dominic (Trina) Brandy, Jerry (Patty) Brandy Jr, Tammy (Zachary) Wyatt, Beth Brandy and Mari (Jim Van Soest) Brandy; his beautiful grandchildren: Olivia, Beau, Cecelia, Taylor and Chickie Brandy, Lacey (Mike) Zimage, Cara and Tierney Flodine and Stephen (Jacquelyn) Woodward; his precious great grandchildren: Miles and Lila Zimage and Gabriel Woodward; his sister-in-law, Norma Pyzola; known as Gizzy to his many nieces, nephews and cousins; brother of the late Emma Farey (Farina), Lena Scalise, Herman Brandy, Virginia Barone and Genevieve Brandy. John was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in both WWII and the Korean War, and was retired from the U. S. Postal Service. CHRISTOPHER WILLIAM GREIL, SR. Age 28, of Overbrook, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. He was born on May 23, 1991, the son of Jaime and Pamela (Hinsley) Greil, grandson of Richard and Carol Greil, John and Patricia Mattes, and Paul and Kay Hinsley. He is survived by his younger brother Austin (and his girlfriend Jamie Stanizzo), and the love of his life, Shalene Rae Herrmann; and their two beautiful sons, Christopher (age 5), and Dayton (age 2), and a 3rd child (Isabella) who is due in this world in a few weeks. Christopher was a devoted and loving father, an avid hockey fan who worked hard and enjoyed video games. AUGUST F. RUDOLF "AUGIE" Of East McKeesport, age 90, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020. Beloved husband of Mary (Wyatt) Rudolf for 66 wonderful years; loving father of Richard Rudolf of FL, August Rudolf, Jr. of East McKeesport, Ronald (Sandra) Rudolf of AL, and Theresa (Ray) Toncich of N. Versailles; cherished grandfather of Ron (Jessica) Rudolf, Raymond Toncich, and Heather Toncich; adored great-grandfather of Brooklyn and Maci Rudolf; brother of Catherine (the late Charles) Cunningham. Preceded in death by siblings, Lewis Rudolf and Marie Hoover. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Augie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was affectionately known by his family and friends as a “jack-of-all-trades” from working in many different industries throughout his life. For years, he worked as a truck driver and general laborer at Sabin China in McKeesport. He also worked for Glosser Tygart Steel in Donora and served as a farm hand in Mt. Pleasant. Augie was also known for having a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. He was a volunteer fireman for East McKeesport #2 Fire Company. ALICE MARIE (MASON) SIMPRONIO Age 92, reached the end of her long journey. Alice passed away from complications of dementia on Thursday, January 2, 2020. She was preceded by her loving husband, Ben of 57 years; her mother, Mary Kancen; and sister, Dolores (Joseph) Miklavic. She was a dedicated mother to her daughters, Nancy Simpronio (Charles Culbertson) and Ellen (John) Rock. She and Ben doted on their granddaughter, Emily Rock and have a great-granddaughter, Luna Rock. Alice is survived by many nieces and nephews from the Miklavic, Simpronio, Gill and Swartz families. Alice loved being with her family and friends along with traveling. After Ben's retirement, they would travel all over the United States for reunions with Ben's Army Air Force Squadron, “The Yellow Scorpions”. For many years in February she and Ben would take a cruise to a sunny destination in the Caribbean. She loved to bake, take care of her family, garden and have a good laugh. While not born Italian, she learned to cook from Ben's sisters and her lasagna, stuffed shells, homemade pizzelles and miniature lady locks were always a hit at family dinners. The family would like to thank the staff, especially the nurses, aides and activities ladies at Marian Manor B-1 unit for all their kindness and care of Alice. JEAN J. (BONCUK) DZIALOWSKI Jean J. (Boncuk) Dzialowski, 89, of Ross Township, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020. Born Oct. 25, 1930, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Jozef and Helena (Wroblewska) Boncuk; wife of the late John J. Dzialowski; loving mother of Kenneth J. "Kenny" Dzialowski (Pamela), John J. "Jay" Dzialowski, Constance J. "Connie" Schmitt (Steve), Robert J. "Bobby" Dzialowski (Linda) and Darlene J. Hommer; sister of the late Joseph and Josephine Boncuk; proud grandmother of Maureen Cameron (James III), Barbara "B.J.", Hillary and Kelly Dzialowski, Steve, Jon and Joe Schmitt, and Lauren, Megan, Erin and John Dzialowski. Jean enjoyed making over 40,000 Pierogies in her lifetime, and baking breads, cakes and cookies. She enjoyed betting on sulky horse racing at the Meadows, gambling at many casinos, was a beloved fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and enjoyed singing "5 Big Fat Pigs" from the 12 Hawaiian Days of Christmas. Most of all, Jean loved being with her family and will be missed by everyone. MARILYN L. BALLES 1932-2019 Marilyn L. Balles, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2019 in Sandy, UT. Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her son, Dr. Mark Balles of Falmouth, ME; her daughters, Jennifer Baumann of Berkeley, CA and Laura Witt of Park City, UT; son-in-law, Thomas Witt; and two grandchildren. Marilyn was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on August 16, 1932, to Ralph and Mary Wilson Lunderstadt. She attended McKeesport High School, where she played first flute in the marching band. She graduated from Indiana State Teachers College, in Indiana, PA. Marilyn married her true love, Toby J. Balles, in 1954, and then lived for a short time in Oak Ridge, TN, and Wethersfield, CT. She worked as a kindergarten and first grade teacher, taking joy in her young students, before dedicating herself to her own children and family. Marilyn lived for almost 50 years in Pittsford, NY. A long-time member of the garden club there, Marilyn loved gardening and was a talented flower arranger. RICHARD NOEL THOMAS, Ph.D Richard Noel Thomas, Ph.D, age 83, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2019. He was born in Wales, UK on Christmas Day, 1936. He was married to his beloved wife and best friend, Patricia Anne (Collins) in 1964, and they raised their 3 children, Bronwen Anne, Richard Glyn and Trevor Owen Thomas. Trevor and Natalie's sons, Milo (8 years) and Ellis (5 years) are their grandsons. He will be survived by his sister-in-law, Loretta O'Connor, and his cousins in Wales. Noel was a scientist having graduated the University of Wales (B.Sc. with honors) and Cambridge University, England, (Ph.D). His academic career began as a researcher at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. In 1963, he became part of the “brain drain” of scientists from the U.K. to the U.S. He began an engaging and innovative career of 35 years at Westinghouse Research in Pittsburgh, PA in semiconductor technology. His role later became management, serving customers such as DARPA, Air Force and developing semiconductor materials and ICs for phased array radar systems. He holds several patents and was frequently invited present his work at conferences. In 1980, he was honored to be elected as Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He became an American citizen in 1986. Noel was a dedicated father, an avid soccer player in his youth and a team coach to his children. NANCY BLECHARZ Nancy Blecharz, 87, of Ross Township, died suddenly at home on Thursday, January 2, 2020. Born May 9, 1932 in Pittsburgh, she was the younger twin daughter of Virgil and Nancy (Wightman) Bears, he of Denver, Colorado and she of Pittsburgh. Nancy was a proud member of Hampton High School's Class of 1950. She went on to study at the Pittsburgh Music Institute with a focus on piano performance, then worked as a church organist, choir director, and private piano teacher. In 1960, she was hired by the H.J. Heinz Company and worked as an executive secretary until the birth of her second daughter in 1968. After working at home for 13 years, she was hired by Burke & Michael, Inc. and then by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she worked for 17 years in several capacities before serving and eventually retiring as secretary to the Chairman, Department of Medicine. Nancy loved to work and was a valued colleague. She was diligent and industrious and developed enduring friendships in each of her job settings. Unfailingly cheerful, Nancy was a joy to be with. She was a ceaseless source of delight at church, work, Red Hat gatherings, or monthly high-school reunions. She was a pianist, a Sudoku and solitaire fan, and an avid consumer of news. Nancy spent decades of happy summers on Chautauqua Lake, NY and loved to introduce new friends to the small gem of a cottage she shared with her husband, Stan. She was often found in Pittsburgh-area restaurants at lunchtime, enjoying gluten-free food and the company of friends. She loved baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, baseball and football; she loved wine, butter, and talk radio. Faithful and brave during the long years of her husband's illness, Nancy was his companion at home, in treatment rooms, through doctor's appointments and hospital stays. She was amiable, generous, and content in all things. She was deeply loved by her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she eagerly anticipated the life to come, her “new address,” where she would be made fully alive, when this life ended. Nancy was preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Everett, and by her loving husband Stan, who passed away in February 2019, they were married for 53 years. She is survived by loving daughters, Holly (Kevin) Carr and Kathy (Eric) Emmons; twin sister, Dorris Donald Eannarino; brother-in-law,William (Judith) Blecharz; grandchildren, Janell Carr, Bethany (Matthew) Sytsema, Meg (Josh) Van Dyke, Andrew (Nicole) Carr, Anna and Katelyn Rose Emmons; great-grandchildren, Diandre Carr, Eden, Cade and Quinn Sytsema, Julianna and Madelyn Van Dyke, Addison Carr; and nieces, Susan Steffy and Ruth Rudolph, as well as nephews Richard Blecharz, Robert Donald, Daniel Donald, Scott Donald, and Jim Donald. Friends received Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Highway 15237 (www.simonsfuneralhome.com).
