EUGENE EDWARD ROBERTS Passed away on August 10, 2019 in Naples, FL. He was born on August 13, 1921 at home in Wilkinsburg, PA to Viola Bethune Roberts and Chester Calvin Roberts, the third of eight siblings raised in Pitcairn, PA., during the 1920's, 30's, and 40's. He graduated from Pitcairn High School in 1939, began working for Westinghouse until enlisting in the Army Air Force in 1942. He trained in early Radar technology and served with the 425th Night Fighter Squadron, through England, France, Belgium, and into Germany in 1944-45. After the war he returned home to PA, worked at Westinghouse, married his high school sweetheart, Patricia LaRoss Montgomery, went to night school for five years, and settled in Monroeville. Gene was an active community and church member, serving in leadership role at Crossroads Presbyterian Church in the 1950's and 60's. He was a dedicated father, loyal friend and neighbor, loving husband, successful Westinghouse executive (Switchgear Division, Dr. Harder's Analytical Department, Astronuclear Laboratory, Telecomputer Center, Ardmore), proud American, and tender grandfather. After the sudden loss of his wife, (1976 hit and run in Monroeville), he married Lola Marshal, lived several years in Mt. Lebanon, PA while continuing his retirement plan of owning a campground in the Smoky Mountains, Kamp Rite Acres, Cosby TN. They relocated to Naples, FL. and travelled the world, but came to ‘camp' on Muddy Creek, in Portersville, PA. every summer. Gene was good at making campfires, celebrating life's accomplishments/milestones, sending thoughtfully chosen greeting cards, giving speeches, cooking slumgullion and big family breakfasts, fixing things, teaching game strategies, doing math, managing teams and complex projects, dancing with the ladies, playing jacks, bridge, pool, pitching horseshoes, golfing, and generally carrying on (Pitcairn Follies was just the beginning!). He loved Pittsburgh sports, his flower gardens and birds, cowboy/western movies, ginger snaps, fig newtons, Wheaties, cherry pie, quiet days at Muddy Creek, sunsets on the Gulf, wondering at the night sky and why we have not yet made it to Mars, helping his much loved neighbors, pulling off surprises, connecting with younger people and ideas, bursting into song, using his IPad, while telling about early computers at Westinghouse, dictating his life stories, asking his Alexa to play Big Band Era music. He believed in education and hard work, in the beauty and adventure of life, in loving again despite personal loss and tragedy. He dearly treasured his afternoon ‘tea' time with Trudy. Gene proudly participated in the Collier County Honor Flight June 20, 2015. On June 6, 2019, the 75th anniversary of D-Day, he told his story live on 92.5 radio in Ft. Meyers and was one of the World War II veterans featured in the Naples Daily News. He was recognized again in that paper on his birthday, August 13, 2019, sadly three days after his death. He died peacefully while enroute to a breakfast event honoring veterans in Naples, Florida, continuing to do his duty till the very end. Gene was predeceased by wife, Patricia Montgomery Roberts; brothers, Calvin, (Viola), and Robert, (Esther); sisters Audrey Proffit Henry (Lloyd), Arlene Mitcheltree (Bill), Bernice Walston (Thomas); niece, Janet Roberts. Survived by daughters, Laura Roberts of Amherst, Massachusetts, Kristin Roberts of Cosby, Tennessee (Larry Ball); siblings Dorothy Dickson (Alan, deceased), Gerald W. Roberts (Catherine, deceased); granddaughters, Shoshana Weiner of Amherst, Massachusetts, Ellie Weiner of Asheville, North Carolina (Morgane Marshall); life companion, Trudy Whittemore; step-grandson, Don Huber; step-granddaughter, Melanie Huber; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, special nieces by marriage, and dear devoted friends the world over. Special cousins by marriage, Molly Arcure (Dave), Joannie Meehan (Michael), and Bill Sandston (Jeannie), who died 8-3-19. All are welcome to attend Memorial Celebration on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Old Stone Church in Monroeville. Visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m., with the Service following at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. HARVEY C. NATHANSON Beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and colleague, Harvey C. Nathanson, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 22, while with his loving family. A lifelong Pittsburgher, he grew up the son of a pharmacist in Morningside before becoming a pioneer in the field of solid-state electronics. As a boy in the 1950s, he taught himself about electrical circuits and built hi-fi music systems from mail-order kits, interests that led him to decline his father's invitation to take over the family pharmacy business, Highview Drug in Stanton Heights, and instead pursue an engineering degree at Carnegie Tech, now Carnegie Mellon University. After earning his Ph.D. in electrical engineering, he joined Westinghouse Electric, the manufacturing giant that was long one of Pittsburgh's leading employers. Working out of the Westinghouse Research Labs in Churchill, in 1965 he conceived of a microscopic device used as a tuner for microelectronic radios. The invention, known as the resonant-gate transistor, became the first device in the field of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), whose technology is now found in consumer products ranging from iPhones to Fitbits. In his work developing similar devices, he pioneered a method of mass production that would later become a mainstay of MEMS manufacturing. In 1973. he patented the use of tiny mirrors to create a video display of the type now found in digital projectors. Named Chief Scientist of the Westinghouse Research Labs in 1988, he retired in 2001 but continued to consult for another decade, completing a 50-year career in which he was awarded more than 50 patents in the field of solid-state electronics. He enjoyed spending time with his family during weekends at their summer cottage in Fombell, Pa.; summer vacations at Cape May on the Jersey Shore; and scenic rail travel around North America. Favorite activities included driving his restored 1947 Farmall Cub tractor; listening to opera; cuddling his cat Charcoal; cooking for family and friends; and eating filet mignon, Mineo's pizza and Baskin-Robbins grasshopper pie. He cherished lifelong relationships with a group of friends who met for many years at the Elbow Room and referred to themselves as the Oakland Philosophical Society. He was an active member of Squirrel Hill's Temple Sinai, where he served multiple terms as Brotherhood president. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Esther Mishelevich Nathanson, children Marc Nathanson (Jane Lee) and Elinor Nathanson (Peter Kogan), adored grandson Benjamin Kogan, lifelong best friend Louis Lind, and countless other friends, colleagues, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents David Nathanson and Ella Sachs Nathanson, his sister Bernice Sniderman and his brother-in-law Milton Sniderman. RONALD BRUCE YUSS OF PETERS TO...

RONALD BRUCE YUSS Of Peters Township, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019, at 73 years of age. After months of courageously battling his failing health, he passed away peacefully. Ronald was born on March 22, 1946 in Charleroi, PA to the late John and Margaret Yuss. Like his older brothers, John and Fred, Ron was a tremendous athlete. He was a three-sport star in high school before receiving a scholarship to play linebacker at West Virginia University. During his playing career at WVU, Ron was an All-American. Ronald was a lifelong Mountaineer and he enjoyed the annual reunion weekends with his former teammates; he was also proud to be a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It is quite possible that both of his daughters graduated WVU because Ron and Barb took them to so many football games during their formative years. Upon graduating college, Ronald was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, went to flight school, and was quickly sent to war. Ron had two tours to Vietnam, flying over 200 combat missions in the F-4 Phantom. For his valor during the war, he received two distinguished flying crosses and 13 air medals. After the birth of his first child, Ron left active duty but spent the rest of his life continuing to serve in flying (A-10 Warthog and A-37 Dragonfly), staff, and mentorship roles with the Air Force Reserves, Air National Guard, and U.S. Air Force Academy. He was proud to be selected to the rank of Colonel. Less than a month before his passing, Ron was still mentoring perspective high school students about the potential benefits of serving in the Air Force. Ronald was the president of R.B.Y. Industries where he was a very successful businessman. He was very fond of his right hand woman, Lynn Dodson, whom which he worked with for over three decades. He and his family were also devoted Christians and members of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Ron very much enjoyed his Saturday morning fellowship with the Trinity Men's Group. Ron also enjoyed his fellowship with his brothers at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 764 in McMurrary. Ronald was proud and humbled to be inducted into the Wall of Valor at the VFW; he always said that he was no different than anyone else that served; he was just one of the lucky ones who made it home alive. Ron met the love of his life, Barbara (Sutherland), during junior high school and the two of them built a beautiful life together. They were married just shy of 51 years. Ronald's two daughters, Lieutenant Colonel Meredith Camilletti and Major Allyson Olson, both spent time on active duty and both are currently serving in the Air Force Reserves. Additionally, both daughters are married to currently serving active duty Air Force officers (Colonel Jason Camilletti F-15C, F-15E, F-22 pilot and Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Olson F-16, F-35 pilot). To say that Ron was proud of his family and their service would be an understatement. Barbara, Meredith, and Allyson were the light of Ron's life but he beamed the brightest in his latest role as “Pappy.” Ronald was a strong, proud, and good man who always looked after his family and who was always willing to help a friend. Ronald is survived by his wife, Barbara, brother, Fred; daughters, Meredith and Allyson; grandsons, Cole, Blake, and Bryce. The family is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first grand daughter in two months. Family and friends welcome at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211) on Sunday, November 24, 2019, 6-8 p.m. and Monday, November 25, 2019, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2019, 12 noon at Trinity United Methodist Church followed by burial with full military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
