He was a perfectionist at his craft, stubborn and demanding regarding the quality of his work. He was an expert in many things, but his passion was his garden and wine making. MICKEY MARGARET (DUDAS) Age 87 of Greentree, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Tom and Jack Dudas; and her sisters, Irene Dudas and Josephine Beck. Margaret is survived by her son, John David; and her seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren all living in Melbourne, Austrialia. She is also survived by two nephews, Tom Dudas, Jr., of Hartford, CT and Greg Dudas of Schenectady, NY; and a neice, Susan Hois of Murrysville, PA. Margaret grew up in Wilkinsburg, PA and attended Duquesne University, obtaining a BS in Biology. She went on to work for many years as an instructor at the Mercy Hospital Nursing School. She loved her work and many of her students remember her fondly as a thorough and caring teacher. In her private life, Margaret had an active retirement with frequent volunteer work and hiking around the Pittsburgh area as a member of a walking club. She was also an avid cat lover, and when she could she always had a pet cat. Friends received 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at which time the Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Marion Manor Chapel, 2695 Winchester Dr., Greentree, PA on Thursday 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marion Manor. HOOGERWERFF FLORENCE MARIE (BURGOON) Passed away after a long battle with cancer on Monday, October 1, with her family at her side. She was born October 26, 1940 in Pittsburgh to Catherine Shunk Burgoon and Regis Burgoon. She attended Penn Hills High School and Saddleback College. Her family called her "Sissy." She had one sister, Elizabeth Burgoon King. She married John Corbit Hoogerwerff in 1962 at St. Anselm Church. Their son, John Corbit "Corrie" Hoogerwerff was born in 1963. Florence worked as an administrator and coordinator in many places, including the California DMV, and title and mortgage companies in the state of Pennsylvania. Florence and John lived an exciting life with the Marine Corps and enjoyed being stationed in many places, including Arlington, VA, San Diego, CA, Washington D.C., Mission Viejo, CA, and retiring to Lancaster, PA. She also enjoyed long trips to Japan and Hawaii while her husband was stationed there. Florence's favorite trip was to Ireland. She enjoyed antique collecting and ran an antique business in California with her husband, John. She lived most of her time in California. After moving to Strasburg in 1998, Florence worked at the County courthouse for several years. She was a member of the Strasburg Heritage Society and helped for many at Strasburg Heritage Days. She also served on the Strasburg Architectural Review Board to help preserve Strasburg's Historical Preservation. Florence is survived by her husband, John; her nieces and nephews, Kim (Laura) King, Mary (Tracy) Vargo, Terry (Dawn) Yates, Thomas (Sharon) Pardue; and her great-nephews, Patrick and Andrew Vargo; and her greatniece, Katherine Vargo. Florence will be missed by much family and many friends and neighbors. She was a joy to everyone that knew her. Florence was preceded in death by her son, John Corbit; sister, Elizabeth; parents, Catherine and Regis; and stepfather, William Coulson. KAPPELER SHIRLEY F. Age 94, of Pleasant Prairie, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Hospice Alliance Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on November 15, 1923, she was the daughter of the late George V. and Emma Marie (Baust) Forsythe and graduated from Oliver High School in Pittsburgh in 1942. On February 22, 1946, she married Calvin P. Kappeler in Pittsburgh. Together they lived in Pittsburgh before living in Waukesha, WI, Pine Bluff, AR, and Oshkosh, WI, until moving to Pleasant Prairie in 2016. Survivors include her husband, Calvin Kappeler of Pleasant Prairie; three children, Bruce (Pat) Kappeler of Pleasant Prairie, Linda (Russ) Volmar of Pewaukee, WI, and David Kappeler of Oshkosh; five grandchildren, Scott Kappeler, Carol (David) Brose, Russ Volmar III, Calvin Volmar, and Wayne Tallent; and two great-grandchildren, Riley Burgett and Mackey Brose. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi Tallent; a granddaughter, Cheryl Tallent; a greatgranddaughter, Anne-Marie Brose; five brothers; and four sisters. MOORE MARJORIE "MARGIE" (HARRIS) Age 94 of Plum, formerly of Monroeville, on Monday, October 1, 2018. Predeceased by her loving husband, Randy, of 68 years. Cherished mother of Sharon Graziano (John Gagetta) of Murrysville, Susan Droege (late John) of Harrison City and William Moore (Janet) of Huntersville, NC; adored grandmother of Shelley Swanson (Rick), Beth Collison (Jake), John Droege (Lisa Rodgers), Kristin Moore, Keith Moore (Natasha) and Kaitlin Haras (Greg); greatgrandmother of R. J., Emma, Nyla and Ivy; sister of the late Donald Harris (late Betty); also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. To live 94 years is an elusive accomplishment, but perhaps more unique is the time period she lived through. At the young age of six, she was accidentally shot by a neighbor. The bullet was never removed and she went on to live a wonderful life. She worked as a switchboard operator during World War II and returned to a similar job at Gateway School District 40 years later after raising three children. She also worked at the family owned business - Moore's Draperies and Slipcovers. At the ripe age of 80 she began a second career dancing with the Clover Belles at nursing homes and charity benefit functions. Her faith, love of family, and many hobbies, kept her active throughout the decades. She loved the Steelers and Notre Dame. Her ability to adapt to new technology such as texting and face time kept her in contact with her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She often rewarded those who helped her with her well-known chocolate chip cookies. She was a caring, compassionate person, who listened to all. FOWLER EDWARD H., JR. Age 86, of Belle Vernon, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. A son of the late Edward H. and Lauretta Huy Fowler, he was born in Venice, California on June 28, 1932. Formerly of Belleview, Ed, along with his late wife, Lois, had resided in Belle Vernon for four decades, and, for the past year, was a resident of the Masonic Home in Sewickley. He served in the United States Navy, having served two years on board the USS Dennis J Buckley DDR 808. He retired in 1991 from Alcoa as the Manager of Property, Sales and Excise Tax division, having had responsibility for the real estate tax assessments for Alcoa's many real estate holdings throughout the United States and abroad. Having received many professional designations and certifications, Ed was a founding member and Past President of the Institute of Professionals and Taxation and an Associate Member of the Tax Executives Institute. Having been a lifelong active Mason, in 1992-93, Ed served as the Right Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, Free and Accepted Masons, the oldest and largest grand lodge of the Masonic fraternity in the United States. In this capacity, he embarked on a pioneering project to offer leadership development skills to members of the fraternity throughout the Commonwealth. Additionally, he was the past presiding national officer of the Convent General, Knights of the York Cross of Honour, the Grand Council of Allied Masonic degrees of the United States of America, the Grand Council of Knight Masons of America, the Governor General of the York Rite Sovereign College of North America and the Provincial Grand Master of the Royal Order of Scotland for the United States of America from 1997-2014. One of his highest Masonic honors and privileges was to be the personal guest of HRH, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England at the 275th Anniversary of organized Freemasonry and to be the only American to have been awarded the privilege of speaking this Event. He was an honorary member of the Grand Lodges of Alaska, Greece, Hawaii, Nevada and Portugal. For his Masonic service, he received numerous awards including the Bronze Medallion from the Chapel of Four Chaplains in Valley Forge Pennsylvania, and an honorary member of the Acacia fraternity. At the national level, Ed received the Knight Grand Cross, or its equivalent, in almost every Masonic organization of which he was a member and was instrumental in introducing several Orders into the United States through his leadership and influence. He was awarded the 33rd degree in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, the Legion of Honor from the Order of DeMolay and the Grand Cross of Colors from the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. Ed was a member and past presiding officer of Bellevue Royal Arch Chapter, Roland C Fisher Mark Lodge, Allegheny Council, Allegheny Commandery, Valley of Pittsburgh, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Keystone Priory KYCH, United States Premier Conclave Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine, Gateway to the West Council, Golden Triangle York Rite College, Transfiguration Tabernacle, HRAKTP, Pennsylvania College SRICF, Royal Order of Jesters Court No.2, The August Order of Light, Susquehanna Court Masonic Order of Athelstan, and the Mayflower Conclave Order of Pilgrim Preceptors. Additionally, he was a member of Syria Shrine, Bryn Athyn Quarry Assemblage, Saint George Prefectory #1 CBCS, Hermetic Order of Spiritual Knights among many other Masonic affiliations. After retirement, he continued traveling the world for his many Masonic endeavors and to enjoy sightseeing, photography and fine dining in more than 40 countries. He was a retired member of the Charleroi Rotary club, a member of the Sheriff's Reserve for Allegheny County, a Member of the Philadelphia Priory Sovereign Military Order of the Temple, and was a Freeman of the City of London. BRYAN JOSEPH E. Age 67 of Pittsburgh (Shaler), formerly of Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair, passed away on September 29, 2018. Born on October 17, 1950 in Pittsburgh, he is the son of the late Mary Lou and John H. Bryan; beloved husband of Marlene (Heshler) and Beth (Broadhurst) who preceded him in death; loving father of Heidi Fink (Jim), Wendy Shaffer (Kurt), and Christina Clark (Tracy); adored brother of Jenifer (Jennie) Hampton (Rob), Mary Katherine (Katie) Jones (Bob), Tim Bryan (Cara), and Elizabeth (Liz) McCall; cherished grandfather (PopPop) of Quinten, BethAllen, Natalie and Tyson Shaffer, Annie and Sara Fink and Adam, John and Hannah Clark; also loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Joe was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering '72 and the Katz Graduate School '89. He was the owner of MatLok Inc. and former owner of Brysco Foodservice Company. Joe's passions were spending time with his family, golf, flying and traveling. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at CREMATION AND FUNERAL CARE, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity National Catholic Church in Washington, PA with burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. FAHRENHOLD JAMES E., Sr. Age 64, of West View, on October 2, 2018. Beloved husband for 41 years of Victoria (Harvey) Fahrenhold; father of James E., Jr. (Kelli), Amanda, Jason (Michaela), and Brittany (fiancé Preston); brother of William; also survived by five grandchildren. Family will welcome friends on Friday, October 5 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, INC. (West View). A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 6 at 11 a.m. James was the best father you could ask for, enjoyed time with his grandchildren, avid Steelers fan, and was also a mechanic and auto enthusiast.
