BLOSEL RAYMOND CASPER Age 98, went to be with the Lord on June 27, 2018. Ray was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late William and Agnes Blosel. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, India Earle Blosel. In addition to his wife, Ray was preceded by a daughter, Rose Agnes Clayton; brothers: William, John, Charles, Albert, Edward, James, Joseph Blosel; and sister, Mildred Cowan. He is survived by two daughters: Belle Blosel and Mary Jane Brawley; six grandchildren: Joe E Muphree, Leslie Ann Clayton Brown (Kevin), Dawson Brent Clayton (Krista), Summer Brawley and Chase Brawley; five great-grandchildren: Tommy, Mason, Skye, Wyatt and Morgan. He is also survived by his sister, Florence Spinneweber; and many loving nieces and nephews. He attended Brentwood High School and graduated with his Class in 1938. In November 1940 Raymond joined the United States Army Air Corps as a buck private. His first military assignment was at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Alabama. During this time period Raymond attended aircraft mechanics school at Spartan School of Aeronautics, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A few months after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Raymond made PFC and was sent to Jackson, Mississippi Army Air Base for primary training on PT-17's. After his primary training, he was sent to Mississippi Institute of Aeronautics; and then he received basic flying training at Bush Field in Augusta, Georgia. After all training was completed, Raymond received his wings at the advanced flying school, Napier Field, in Dothan, Alabama, and was sent to Greenville Army Air Base (later renamed Donaldson AFB) for combat training on B-25 bombers. One evening, while attending a USO dance at Sears Shelter in Greenville, Raymond met his soon-to-be wife, India Earle. They were married in November, 1943, and their wedding night was spent at the Poinsett Hotel in downtown Greenville. They honeymooned in Florida for a month and then returned to Greenville where Raymond was again stationed at Greenville Army Air Base. By now he was a 2nd lieutenant and served as an instructor for B-25 pilots. In the latter part of 1943, Blosel was sent to Kellogg Field, Michigan, with orders to pick up a brand-new B-25, which he flew the southern route to North Africa, where he put in 50 bombing missions, targeting German airports and harbors, and shipping ports in Sicily, Sardinia, Italy and North Africa. After his missions were completed, Raymond returned to Greenville Army Air Base. After Greenville Army Base closed, Raymond was sent to Lake Charles, LA, in 1946, and then he was transferred to El Paso, Texas. In late 1948 to 1949 (after fighting the Germans in World War II), Raymond participated in the Berlin Airlift and the Korean War. During the Berlin Airlift, Raymond flew three C-54 plane loads of coal each day from Fassberg in West Germany to Tegel where the Germans had built the longest runway in Europe. He'd land at Tegel and would wait as German volunteers unloaded the 10-ton cargo (which had been packed into duffle bags) in 12 to 14 minutes. Then he was off-back to Fassberg to get loaded up again. The coal was being brought in to Berlin by the American pilots as a humanitarian effort to help the German people who were now starving to death because of a blockade by the Soviets. The blockade was lifted on May 12, 1949. In 1949 Raymond participated in the Korean War. He was a maintenance officer of an early warning radar site on the island of Cho Do. From 1949 to 1950, while stationed at San Antonio, Raymond was made a food service officer. In 1950, he was sent to Biloxi Mississippi where he attended radar electronics school for training in early warning radar. In 1952-1953, he was reassigned to his first assignment in Japan at Tachikawa AFB. In the following years, up until his retirement in 1963, Raymond was stationed at Eglin AFB, Florida, and Shaw AFB, Sumter, SC. After he had put in 23 years in the Air Force, Raymond decided to finally retire, and take his family back to Greenville, SC, where he had met his wife and his career in the Air Force had really begun. Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018, at M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC 29621. DORAN WELDON C., JR. AGE 85, O...
DORAN WELDON C., Jr. Age 85, of Mt. Lebanon, PA, beloved husband and best friend of Lois Jean (Wells) Doran for over 65 years, died peacefully on Saturday, June 30, 2018. Weldon C. Doran, Jr. was born in Huntington, WV on February 6, 1933. He was the son of Beulah F. and Weldon C. Doran. He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Bobbye Jean Doran Lee. Besides his wife, Lois, Weldon is survived by his four loving children, Dana D. Olivarez (Juan), Diana C. Doran, Weldon C. Doran, III and Kelly D. Bareford (Christian). He was the dearly treasured grandfather to his six grandsons, Stephen Olivarez (Crista), Tyler Graham, Doran Graham, Aidan Bareford, Anderson Bareford and Carston Bareford. His grandsons adored and cherished their beloved "Poppy". He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. As a prep school student at Bob Jones Academy in Greenville, SC, Weldon was a gifted athlete. He played soccer and basketball. Basketball was his favorite. In fact, he excelled in the sport to the degree in which he received the Academy's Most Athletic Student Award in the year of 1950. He went on to play basketball throughout the South in the 1950's in the Industrial League. Weldon served for three years during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corps. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Huntington to complete his Geology degree from Marshall University. A job offer, in 1959, from Equitable Gas Company brought Weldon and his young family to Pittsburgh, PA. After 17 years at Equitable, many of them spent as manager of the company's Geology Department, Weldon resigned from Equitable Gas and founded his own company, Doran & Associates, Inc. He and his company became a leader in the oil and gas industry. The business engaged in the development, evaluation, consulting and operation of the natural gas and oil resources in the Appalachian Basin region of the United States. He was dedicated to the development and conservation of our nation's own energy needs. Weldon's knowledge and his reputation as an expert in the field of oil and gas exploration led his company to become, at one time, one of the largest independent producers of natural gas in the Appalachian Basin. Weldon was a Certified Petroleum Geologist and a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Association of Professional Geological Scientists, the Southwestern Pennsylvania Engineers Society, Pennsylvania Gas Association, IOGA of West Virginia and IOGA of New York. He was also a member of the PNGA's Board of Trustees. Over the course of his life, Weldon was active in both the Southern Baptist and Presbyterian Churches. He was a current member of Christ United Methodist Church. He had a beautiful Irish tenor singing voice and often led the song services. He was known to lead a rousing rendition of one of his favorite hymns, "Amazing Grace". Weldon was an avid hunter, golfer, voracious reader and enjoyed traveling with his family. Alaska, Maine, Florida, Ireland and New Zealand were some of his favorite places. He traveled to Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Europe, China, various tropical locales and toured the Southern Hemisphere. He went on exciting trips and saw wonderous things throughout the world. He also enjoyed spending time at his Pennsylvania hunting camp and farm. But for all of his travels, Weldon loved most being with Lois, the love of his life and his children and grandsons. The family would like to thank the many wonderful doctors and caregivers that helped to care for Weldon. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care to him over the last months of his life were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time that we spent with him. While we mourn his passing and will miss him every single day, we rejoice in the memories of a life well spent together. Frank is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Josephine (Monterossi), and his sisters, Norma (Householder), Helen (Scalise), and Dorothy (Simakas). Frank T believed that a man's family is his greatest achievement; his belief was beyond achieved. Frank was born on February 6, 1935 in Glenshaw, PA. He proudly passed his skills and knowledge onto his sons Mark and Andrew; who continue the company F.T. Bozzo and Sons into a Third generation. Up until the weeks before his passing; he visited the job sites daily; (often bringing mom, Barb) just to have lunch with his boys. Frank was an active member of the Shaler community, and was proud to be a founding member of the Saint Bonaventure Church, parish, and school. He shared many stories of his years as a volunteer coach for Saint Bonaventure Football, and as a baseball coach for the Dehaven Athletic Association.
