HUNT VIRGINIA MARY AGE 95, OF ...
HUNT VIRGINIA MARY Age 95, of Cranberry Twp., passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at her home, with her loved ones surrounding her. Born May 24, 1923, daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Agnes Isaacson. Virginia was preceded in death by her late husband Eugene F. Hunt of 68 years. She is survived by a large and loving family; her 11 children, Mary Hunt O'Connor, Joseph Hunt, Gary Hunt, Timothy Hunt, Terence Hunt, Eugene Hunt, Kathleen Hunt Snoderly, Andrew Hunt, Ann Hunt Brunner, Patricia Hunt Croley, and Virginia Hunt, 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and the spouses of her children and grandchildren who were all welcomed into the family. Virginia was a college graduate with a degree in English, at a time when few women held degrees, paying her own way through school. She worked as a school teacher for several years and during the difficult years of WWII worked with the Department of Defense in the office of the Secretary of Defense. Those who knew her well knew that she was an independent thinking woman with strong leadership skills and courage. She excelled in her work at the heart of the war effort in the Pentagon, and even found time to take flying lessons. Following the end of the war she was asked to transfer from the Pentagon to the White House but turned down the opportunity to begin her life with her husband, Eugene F. Hunt. As a mother and wife, she possessed the fortitude and skills to take a large family on regular camping trips, prepare meals and do laundry on a grand scale, maintain a home that was always the center of every neighborhood in which she lived, and entertain friends and business associates with style and grace. She taught all of her children and grandchildren the value of education and hard work and instilled in them all a belief in Jesus Christ and His teachings. After the last of her children left home, she returned to work as an assistant to the Athletic Director of the University of Pittsburgh where she became a favorite of many of the student-athletes. Virginia was a light to her family whose glow will be sorely missed, but never, ever extinguished in our hearts. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption at 45 North Sprague Avenue, Bellevue, PA. Interment will follow in North Side Catholic Cemetery.
