CERCONE WILLIAM "BILL" F., Jr. Age 77, of McCandless, on Thursday, June 21, 2018. Bill died from complications of Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan, and his beloved children, Anne C. Jones of Durango, Colorado with her husband, Tom and Matthew S. Cercone of Brooklyn, New York with his wife, Alexandra and their dearest children, George and Grace. These grandchildren were a particular delight for Bill during his last years. Bill was born in Stowe Township on February 1, 1941 to William F. Cercone and Mathilda Parada Cercone. He graduated from Stowe High School in 1958, Villanova College in 1962, and Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle in 1965. Shortly after law school, Bill joined the United States Navy, serving first as a seaman, but leaving the Navy in 1969 as a lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. On his return to Pittsburgh in November 1969, Bill established a private law practice and became an assistant Allegheny County Solicitor. For many years he served as the solicitor for the Cornell School District. By the time of his retirement in 2012, Bill had become a well known Grant Street figure and had zealously advocated for many criminal defendants. He was a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association. Bill's family offers special thanks to the staff at the Arbors at St. Barnabas and the St. Barnabas Nursing Home for his month with them. Her beloved daughter, Kelly Morrison, was by her side. Born in West Mifflin, PA, Kathy graduated from West Mifflin South High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Penn State. She then earned her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine, followed by a graduate degree in Veterinary Ophthalmology from the University of California, Davis. Kathy enjoyed a successful veterinary practice in Brentwood, CA. Rich was a pillar in his community and loved by all. Rich dedicated his career to Typecraft Press, the family business, from 1973 to 2002, last serving as the Vice President. GARLAND CHARLES MATTHEW Of Penn Hills, age 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 21, 2018, at his residence, surrounded by family. Born November 3, 1934, to Joseph and Rachel (Colucci) Garland. Charles graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1952, where he played football and baseball. After graduation, Charles joined the Army and was stationed in Alaska as a heavy mortar gunner during the Korean War. Upon returning from the service, Charles played for the 1957 season Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League team as pitcher. Charles worked at Westinghouse, where he met Dianne Schafer. They were married on June 7, 1958 at Saint Coleman's in Turtle Creek. Together they shared over 60 years of happiness. Beloved father of Joseph (Gina), Charles (Keri), and Gregory (Marlene); grandfather to Vincent. Preceded in death by his brothers, Anthony Texas Tony, Francis Frankie and Joseph Garland; survived by sisters, Thresa (Jack) Yurman and Angela Lardo; also survived by many nieces and nephews. KEEHN MARCIA LINDQUIST Marcia Lindquist Keehn of Evanston IL died peacefully on June 20 2018. She was 89 years old. She was a longtime resident of Winnetka IL and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Silas Keehn. Marcia was born in Tarentum, PA on June 9 1929. She graduated from Tarentum High School, earned a B.A. from Wells College and a Masters in Education from New York University. In 1948 Marcia met the love of her life, Silas Keehn, the brother of her sister's roommate, at the sisters' graduation from Wellesley College. A long distance courtship followed, ultimately leading to their marriage in 1955 while Silas was on shore leave from the US Navy. The early years of their marriage took them from Newport RI to Cambridge MA and ultimately to Pittsburgh PA where they lived for the next 24 years and raised three children. Their years in Pittsburgh were happy ones, highlighted by summers on Nantucket and lots of family nearby. Marcia became an active volunteer in many organizations, including Shadyside Presbyterian Church, Pressley Ridge Family Counseling Center, and the Children's Institute, where she ultimately became Board Chair. In 1981 she and Si resettled in Winnetka, where they lived for most of their remaining years. Marcia volunteered at the The Art Institute of Chicago, youth tutoring in Rogers Park, Kenilworth Garden Club, Kenilworth Union Church and Town and Country Arts Club. She loved gardening, cooking and spending every possible minute with her family and eight grandchildren, whether it was visits to the Chicago Botanic Garden or walks on the beach in Boca Grande FL. In their later years they enjoyed lots of international travel, including visits to London, where they had lived for several years with their young children. She is survived by a sister, Marylou Appel of Canandaigua NY, daughter Libby Keehn Lewis and her husband John of Winnetka, IL, daughter Britta Keehn Scott and her husband Edward of Riverside, CT, and son Peter Keehn and his wife Stephanie of Wilmette, IL; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Glenn Lindquist Jr. A Memorial service celebrating Marcia Keehn's life will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Kenilworth Union Church, 211 Kenilworth Avenue, Kenilworth, IL 60043. Mary was born on September 1, 1927 to Owen and Helen (Butler) Dwyer and grew up in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania. She was the beloved wife of August (Augie) Friedrich for 67 years. Mary graduated from Duquesne University in 1951 where she earned a bachelor's of arts double degree in Sociology and Philosophy. Mary is survived by her six sons, one daughter and their spouses: Michael and Joyce, Daniel and Susan, Kevin and Tammy, James and Julie, Joanne and Walter Massey, John, and Paul and Linda, as well as her 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Helen and Charles Lodge, Carol and Paul Mueller, Kathleen and Patrick Connell, Owen and Mary Beth (Sweeney) Dwyer and Sara and Joseph Lodge. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia Robbins and Barbara Vogel. Mary was always an independent thinker and activist committed to improving the world through peace, environmental stewardship, women's rights, holistic medicine, and organic nutrition. HERBERT PAMELA RHODES On Thursday, June 21, 2018, Pamela Rhodes Herbert, devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away at the age of 58, after battling illness. Pam will be forever loved and cherished by her husband of over 30 years, Chuck, her children, Ashley and Cassie, and by her brothers Terry and Ken. Pam was a strong Christian, and her family has no doubt that she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Pam worked as an accountant before choosing to stay home to raise her two daughters. She was a strong advocate, loving mother and Godly example in their lives-this will always be her greatest legacy. As a member of St. Stephen's Church, Pam worked to serve and utilize her strengths. She was a joyous member of the bell choir and ministered at the Center for Hope in Ambridge. She will be greatly missed by her many friends, family members, and sisters in prayer. One of her favorite Bible verses to quote was Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Liberty Avenue, Dormont, PA on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, beginning at 3:30 p.m., with a celebration of life gathering immediately afterwards from 4 to 5 p.m. Lana was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Robert and Eleanor Hite, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Michael D. Reese of Frisco, Texas, and David Ehrlich of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving are two grandsons: Michael D. Reese, Jr. and Andrew Joseph Reese, also of Frisco, Texas. She leaves behind a cousin Karen Price, and her devoted daughter-in-law, Christy Middleton Reese. Lana spent most of her life in the Pittsburgh area. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mt. Lebanon, PA. Lana instilled in us the joy of family and tradition. She was a lady of great character and indomitable spirit, and she showed us that a person can inspire others by enduring with dignity. REED DR. MARY MAHONEY On Friday June 15, 2018, beloved wife of the late Francis Reed; mother of Mary Brown (James) and the late John Reed; loving grandmother of Nicole Brown, Amber Grunden, Craig and Kristen Brown; great-grandmother of Connor, Cameron and Reagan Brown; preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Jeremiah Mahoney; her sister, Barbara Goldbach; and her uncle, Dennis Mahoney.
