KERR W. GREGG Age 86, of Saxonburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 30, 1927, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late William Gregg Kerr and Catherine (Evans) Kerr. Gregg was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School (1945). He served active duty in the U.S. Naval Aviation Service and was discharged in May of 1947. Gregg graduated from Cornell in 1949 and University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1952. He spent his career as a partner with Eckert, Seamans, Cherin & Mellott in the Litigation and Corporate departments. He was past Chairman of the International Lawyers' Group. Gregg served many years as a Board Member of the Butler County Airport Authority. He was an accomplished photographer and shotgun shooter, and an avid aviator. He enjoyed fishing, sailing, reading, travel and classical music. Surviving are loving children, Stephen Bruce (Kathy) Kerr of Green Brook, NJ, Brian Keith (Michele) Kerr of Pittsburgh, Douglas Gregg Kerr of Sarver, Robert Duncan (Eve) Kerr of Ann Arbor, MI, and Wendy Kerr (Fernando) Recio of Cabot; his grandchildren, Geoffrey Matthew (Lauren) Kerr of Tuscan, AZ, Jeramie Paige Kerr of Green Brook, NJ, W. Teague Kerr and Kendel Jane Kerr of Pittsburgh, Jessica Audrey Kerr and Rachel Julia Kerr of Ann Arbor, MI, Christopher Douglas Recio of Knoxville, TN, and Megan Elizabeth Recio of Cabot; his great-granddaughter, River Juliete Kerr of Tuscan, AZ; his sister, Mary "Kay" Catherine Atteberry of Kansas City, KS; and his beloved companion, Gretchen E. Hart of Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death (1982) by his wife of thirty years, Jane Backus Kerr. PALKOT JOHN S., M.D. Age 87, died peacefully on February 26, 2014, after an extended illness. He was a long time resident of Martinsburg, WV, where he practiced medicine for 49 years. Born in McKees Rocks (Pittsburgh), PA, he was the son of the late John S. Palkot and Mamie Bradunas Palkot of Pittsburgh, PA. He was the loving husband of Hilda Hiner Palkot for 30 years until her death in 1982. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Palket (Kathleen d.) of Aliquippa, PA, in 2006. He is survived by his brother, Edward Palkot (Anne d.) of Garden City, NY; and his sister, Mildred Palkot Sukys (Bronius). He was godfather and uncle to Edward Palkot, Jr. (Debbie) and dear uncle to Barbara Palkot Hymans (Don), Patty Palkot Abdellatif (Abe), Gregory Palkot, Jean Palket Beardsley, Kathy Palket, Nancy Sukys, M.D., and Janet Sukys Petrauskas; also survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews. He was a dear friend and doctor to Johnny Miller for many years, who was by his side during his entire illness. Dr. Palkot was the son of Lithuanian parents. He was named after his father and learned the elements of hard work and business. He was always by his father's side and proud to be named after him. Later in life, he had the opportunity to visit Lithuania to see where his father was born. Up until his death, he still talked about what a beautiful country Lithuania was. He was a 1945 graduate of Allegheny High School and was valedictorian of his class. He was co-captain of the football team and was known to forge his mother's signature so that he could play. He was a veteran of World War II where he held the rank of Technician Fourth Grade. He was part of a secret decoding group in Eretria, Africa. After being released from duty, he attended the University of Pittsburgh and was bestowed the degree of Electrical Engineer in 1950. While working at his first job as an engineer at Westinghouse, he met his future wife, Hilda Hiner. After marrying in 1953, they decided that he should pursue his dream of becoming a medical doctor. He graduated from West Virginia University Medical School in 1964 and began his practice in Martinsburg on Winchester Avenue, and also worked for the VA Hospital. During this time, he served as Plant Physician at Corning Glassworks. Later he opened the Inwood Family Medicine office in Inwood, WV. He was associated with Berkeley Medical Center, formerly known as City Hospital. Dr. Palkot retired from practice in September 2013 at age 87. He always had a kind heart with helping people. He was a lover of dogs and owned many pets. His talents were far and wide and ranged from building a boat out of wood to fixing the gutters. He had the ability to make people laugh and let them know that he cared about them. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. Friends will be welcome at 327 W. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Donnelly, on July 18, 1960, two brothers and two sisters. She was born in Braddock, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Adams Simcik. She was a member of Saint Andrew Roman Catholic Church and very active with the Surfside Seniors. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles “Cuddy” Gilarski; a son, Ed Gilarski; and her siblings, Joseph Simcik, Cy Simcik, and Margaret Gilarski. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Mazzotta; and dear mother of the late Sammy Mazzotta; beloved aunt of Jean (Nusser) Kablack and Harton Wolf, who were blessed to have her spend these past five years with them. Beloved sister of Warren “Pro,” 92, of Gainesville, Florida; beloved aunt of Anne Wilson (Rodney), John Kloffenstein (Renee), Laura Buchanan (Grant), Helen Fogarty (Jim) and Polly Dubetz (Tony); treasured great aunt of Joshua Kablack (Darcy) and Aaron Kablack (Sara). Her pleasant disposition, positive outlook, wit and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. She was an avid reader, lifelong writer of longhand letters to everyone she cared about and a passionate sports fan, always rooting for her Pittsburgh home teams no matter where she lived. Also preceding her in death were brothers, Herbert, Charlie, Richard, Raymond, Arthur, and Norman; and her beloved only sister, Vivienne. In addition to the nieces and nephews already mentioned, she is survived by many others, including three grandchildren, Mark, Kristine and David; two great-grandchildren, Dakota and Joshua; her dear grand-nephew, Adam; and her beloved great-grand-nephew, Caleb, who brought her so much joy.
