DONATO PHYLLIS ELIZABETH Age 67, of Upper St. Clair and formerly of Brookline, on Monday, April 23, 2018. Devoted daughter of the late Anthony and Dorothy (Morreale) Donato; cherished sister of Eugene D. (Nada) Donato; aunt of Lisa (Hugh) Hootman; also survived by several loving cousins and many dear friends. Phyllis was a substitute school teacher with the Dioceses of Pittsburgh, most often at St. Margaret of Scotland in Green Tree. She was an avid reader and tennis player. DOHERTY DIANE J. (PASSETTI) Age 77, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2018. Beloved wife of the late John L. “Jack” Doherty, Esq.; loving mother of John F. Doherty, Esq. (Patricia E.), Kathleen A. Hardy (W. Scott); dear grandmother of Jonathan G., Krissa A., and Patrick J. “PJ” Doherty, and Elizabeth A. and Kaitlyn S. Hardy; sister of Vicki Ann Sturges (Guy P.) and Stephen V. Passetti (Linda C.); and aunt to six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor Tulio “Skeeter” Passetti and Anna (Walascuk) Passetti. In addition to raising her children, her civic involvement included membership in the 25 Club of Magee-Womens Hospital and service on the board of the Civil Light Opera Guild. ARRIGONI DORA LOUISE Passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018. She was born on June 7, 1919 in Lawrence, PA, the third daughter of Anthony and Barbara (Paroli) Arrigoni. Dora was a registered nurse having graduated from both Duquesne University and Mercy Hospital after a five year nursing program in 1943. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1945 and worked as a nurse for the Navy as Ensign until 1946. She then went to work for the VA, first working at the hospital in Butler, then moving to Erie in 1950 where she setup the recovery room and worked as a supervisor until 1967 when she moved back to Lawrence to work at the Pittsburgh VA in intensive care. She retired in 1977. In 1997, she lost her vison due to macular degeneration but continued to live alone until 2000. Sister of the late August, Thomas, George, Anne, Dena, Sylvia, Margaret Arrigoni and Elizabeth DiBattista. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. JESSEN MYRON M. “JESS” Age 97, of McMurray, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Beloved husband of Joan Jessen for 70 years; loving father of Brian Jessen, Karen (Michael Griffing) Jessen; and Alison (Paul) Pierpoint; proud grandfather of Chris and Kevin Griffing, Zach and Valerie Pierpoint; step grandfather of Sheri, Carrissa and Ian Griffing; son of the late Lawrence and Emma Jessen. Jess was a graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree. He retired from Consolidation Coal Co. in Library in 1986. He was also a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. Jess and his wife, Joan, loved to travel the world. Jess will be remembered for being an avid bridge player and for his passion for music. He was the only man in America to watch football with the sound off while listening to the opera. Most of all, Jess had an immense love for his family. This shows in his three beautiful children who carry his legacy, and his love shown to his wife by giving her the freedom to be accomplished and volunteer her time. Elizabeth grew up in West Mifflin and was a passionate, God – loving woman, who danced and sang her way through life. She always sought to live for the glory of God, serving others before herself. BERMAN MARTHA YORKIN Of Upper St. Clair, formerly of Washington, PA, age 93, on Monday, April 23, 2018. Adored mother of Diane L. Berman, of Pittsburgh; and cherished grandmother of Bernard Balbot of Chicago, IL; preceded in death by her beloved husband and daughter, Dr. Bernard Berman and Dr. Linda Berman; and her two siblings, Alan (Bud) Yorkin and Ruth Yorkin Drazen. Survived by loving nieces and nephews. Martha was born in Washington, PA, to the late Jessie and Maurice Yorkin on July 23, 1924, graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women (Chatham University) with a degree in economics and government, followed by a fellowship at the National Institute of Public Affairs before working as a labor mediator for the National Labor Relations Board prior to her marriage. When her two daughters reached high school, she returned to graduate school and obtained a Masters in Counseling, working as a fulltime counselor for Peters Township High School until her retirement in 1986. Martha was best known as one of Washington County's most committed and treasured volunteers. Her volunteering began in the 1950's with the Washington County Medical Auxiliary and culminated in her chairing the Washington Hospital Board of Trustees and becoming a member of the Washington Hospital Foundation Board. She was a founding member of the Washington County Mental Health Association and served on numerous other boards for her synagogue, library, and multi-cultural community centers. Over the past decades, she was honored by the League of Women Voters, the YMCA, the Mental Health Association, the American Association of University Women and the United Way for her commitment to volunteer service. Martha was loved by many in the communities she served and will be deeply missed. Services at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray, at 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2018. Palamone; brother of the late Anthony Palamone and Marion Poppa. He was the son of the late Pasquale and Christina (Scorza) Palamone. Lou graduated from Wilmerding High School and became a machinist at the Westinghouse Air Brake. Throughout his career, Lou worked for several small machine shops. He retired from Hamill Manufacturing Company at age 62. Lou enjoyed woodworking and going to craft shows. He always loved helping family and friends with handyman chores. WICKSTROM JOHN L. Age 97, passed away in Ocala, FL, on April 22, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Hazel M. Wickstrom of Ocala, FL; his son, Fred Wickstrom of Pittsburgh PA; his daughter Kathryn W. Smith of Ocala, FL; a sister, Virginia Zolner of Pittsburgh, PA; five grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, and one great- great-grandchild. John was predeceased by his two brothers, William and Robert; one sister, Evelyn; his son, John L. Wickstrom, Jr.; and grandson, John L. Wickstrom III. John was a World War II veteran who served in the eastern theater of the war with the United States Navy, and a Mason of the 32nd degree. John and Hazel have celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary. John was retired from Westinghouse. A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Countryside Presbyterian Church of Ocala on Hwy. 200 at 3 p.m. with Gary Marshall presiding over services. HAGGERTY BARBARA ANN Age 83, of Pleasant Hills, PA, formerly of Erie, PA, passed away on April 22, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Helen Zvolensky Kusko Zalas and Joseph Kusko; and the stepdaughter of Chester G. Zalas, who all preceded her in death. She now joins her loving husband, Maurice L. Haggerty, Sr. in Heaven. She is survived by her two daughters, Laureen (Timothy) King, and Gayle (Michael) Kowalski; and her five sons, Maurice, Jr. “Bud”, Barry (Julie), Jeffrey (Lynne), Shaun (Erica), and Brandon (Alicia). She joins her beloved sister, Dolores “Dee” Fiedler who preceded her in death. She is survived by her brothers, James (Patricia) and John Zalas; and her sisters, Mary Lou Ryfun (Edward), and Margaret “Marg” Mechlenburg (William). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Anthony, Kristina, Jeffrey, Kristine (Nicholas), Jacob, Alexander, Andrew, Katherine, Lucas, McKenna, Brynnley, Brady, Finnegan, Skye and Violet.
