Georgia was very active with the Navy Relief Organization and the Red Cross as John was an officer in the United States Navy. She was a world traveler, following her husband throughout his naval and working careers. O'DONNELL JENNIE ANN (MASCARO) Age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Presbyterian Senior Care, Oakmont, just one day after her 88th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband, Tom, of 31 years. Jennie will be lovingly remembered by her twin sons, Francis D. and wife, Kathryn of Verona, and Thomas J. and his wife, Kathleen of Franklin, TN. Her memory will also be cherished by her four grandchildren, Valentina, Anne, Eugene, and Tommy O'Donnell; Jennie is also survived by her brother, Frank Mascaro and wife, Darlene of Verona. Jennie resided in Verona for the past 60 years, serving amazing, heartfelt meals that nourished the bodies and souls of family and friends creating wonderful memories for all. Rooms came to life with her laughter and contagious energy. Her vibrant spirit and witty humor filled those around her with love and joy. She was known to be a woman of style and captured the eye of those around her. Jennie loved her work at Allegheny Cemetery in Lawrenceville where she retired after 35 years. Her colleagues there became part of her family. Jennie enjoyed time with her loved ones and adventures, both domestic and international, in her years of retirement. ROSENBLUM RAY On Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Ray was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, the second and youngest son of David Rosenblum and Sarah Georgia Borisky Rosenblum, pioneer broadcasters who founded Butler radio station WISR, named for Ray's grandfather, Isaac Samuel Rosenblum. Ray was educated in Pittsburgh at Shadyside Academy, for whom he was an enthusiastic fundraiser, and at Princeton University. A lifelong broadcaster, Ray worked at WISR at an early age and continued his career founding and managing radio stations in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Over his career, he was involved in ownership and management of ten different radio stations. In 1962, Ray married novelist and educator, Helen Faye Davis of Pittsburgh. In the late 1960s Ray, Helen Faye, and their three young sons moved to Marietta, Ohio, where they lived for 15 years. Ray was the owner and manager of radio station WMOA. He was an innovative and award winning broadcaster who earned recognition for emphasizing local news programming, including call in talk shows and special programs such as election return coverage. He was an elected national board member CBS Radio Affiliates Organization. In community service, he served as member of Rotary International, Vice President of the Marietta Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Marietta Red Cross, and Board Member of Temple B'Nai Israel in Parkersburg, West Virginia. He was an entrepreneur in community service of the arts, bringing performers and artistic organizations to Marietta through the Community Concert Association, culminating in his Chairmanship of the Ohio Arts Council and the Ohio Program of the Humanities. In the 1980s, he left radio station ownership and management to begin a second career in Pittsburgh as a consultant, broker, and appraiser of broadcast properties, in which capacity he sold dozens of stations and wrote appraisals for even more. In that capacity, his opinions, articles, and commentaries were published in trade publications and daily newspapers, locally and nationally. In Pittsburgh, Ray served as President of the Rodef Shalom Temple Brotherhood, through which he volunteered in charitable efforts and emceed performances. An active political enthusiast throughout his life, Ray interviewed a young Senator John F. Kennedy and asked a question of Ronald Reagan in a White House press conference. He is survived by his wife, Helen Faye; sons, Joshua, Steven, and Charles; daughter-in-law, Joanne Lessner; grandchildren, Julian, Phoebe, and Riley; brother, Joel; nephew, Dai; and nieces, Georgia and Jeanine. BERGMAN REV. FATHER CHARLES B. Age 87, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Zelienople, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, while under the care of the Vincentian Home. Born November 10, 1930, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late William V. Bergman and Rosemarie Buckert Bergman. Father Bergman graduated from North Catholic High School. He attended St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1954 and his Master of Divinity degree in 1972. Father Bergman was ordained by Bishop John Dearden and incardinated into the Diocese of Pittsburgh on May 31, 1958, at St. Paul's Cathedral. He began his devotion to the Lord by serving as Parochial Vicar from 1958 to 1963 at St. Anne Parish in Pittsburgh. He then went on to serve as Parochial Vicar from 1963 to 1974 at St. Mary Parish in New Castle. Moving to Zelienople in 1974, he was the beloved Pastor of St. Gregory Catholic Church for 29 years, until his retirement in 2003. Father Bergman was thankful for the gift of his priesthood, for his family, and for the city he loved, especially the sports teams. He is survived by his brother, Raymond Bergman and his wife, Patricia; his sister, Rosemary Amurgis and her husband, Pete; a sister-in-law, Joann Bergman; and was the devoted uncle of many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, William Bergman and his wife, Theresa, and Gerard Bergman. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople, PA 16063. A Vesper service will be held at 7:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 9 p.m. on Friday. KISSEL LOUIS J. LOU Age 52, a lifelong resident of Creighton, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Lou was born March 30, 1965, in New Kensington. He was the son of Theresa (Spece) Kissel and the late Joseph L. Kissel. Lou was a graduate of Deer Lakes High School, and served eight years as a Reserve for the Army National Guard, from 1985 to 1993. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0226 of Brackenridge, and the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Creighton. A lifelong passion for the outdoors, Lou was employed for 28 years by Allegheny County Parks and Recreation Division, most recently Hartwood Acres Park. Outside of work, Lou enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and was a dog lover at heart. Lou's passions, loved by friends and family, was his talented culinary skills and his acquired love for gardening for which he was proud of. He also loved listening to music and watching war movies and documentaries. BANDURA BETTY I. Betty Bandura, of Chippewa Twp., passed away on February 27, 2018 at age 94. Born in Birmingham, England, she attended King Edward VI School for Girls while studying ballet and music. After graduating from Guildhall Secretarial College, she served in Britain's war rearmament effort, working in the Aircraft Inspection Department within the Rover Company, one of England's shadow factories. She met her late husband, U.S. Army Corporal Joseph Bandura, was married and came to the United States to start a family and a new life. Working out of her garage in New Brighton in the 1950s, she co-founded a business which grew into a successful multi-state chain of electronic stores. Betty was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, baking and gardening and had a love for animals. She was a past member of the Beaver County Outlook Club for over 20 years and previously attended St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Beaver Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; a daughter, Susan Burnett; and a son, Alan Bandura. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Joyce Bandura of Little River, SC. The family wishes to thank all of her friends and the staff of the Grove at Harmony for their love, care and support for Betty. PENKOWER LINDA, DR. Died peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at her home in Squirrel Hill following a nine year valiant fight with cancer. After receiving her Ph.D from Columbia University in 1993, Linda joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh where she was an Associate Professor and served as chair of the Department of Religious Studies. She was a renowned scholar in Medieval Chinese and Japanese Buddhist history, Tiantai Buddhism, and contemporary religion in East Asia. Over the course of her career, Linda published scholarly articles and books and received many honors and awards, as well as several prestigious fellowships, including two Fulbright-Hays for faculty research abroad. Linda is survived, and will be greatly missed, by her sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Bruce Post; her nephew, Jordon Post, his wife, Jerica, and son, Jaxon; and her niece, Brynna Post.
