GETH FRANK JOSEPH FRANK JOSEPH...
GETH FRANK JOSEPH Frank Joseph Geth, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at his home in Templeton, CA. He was born in Broughton, Pennsylvania in January 1926 to Anna and John Geth. Frank was raised by his mother after his father, and Grandfather, were killed in the Horning Pennsylvania coal mine explosion and fire in February 1926 when Frank was only one month old. He grew up tough and strong-willed and in 1943 (a month after turning 17) he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after forging his mother's signature; Frank participated in the Palau Islands Operation, specifically in combat and as a top communications lineman on Peleliu. In the communications forum, life expectancy (per Frank) was 30 seconds on the pole. But survive he did. Two months prior to his discharge in December 1945, he was back in his hometown and met the "love of his life", a petite, feisty brunette (Bette Cingel) who would be his forever lifelong partner and soulmate for 66 and a half years. They married in April of 1947 and settled in Pittsburgh, PA and had three children. In 1961 they decided to relocate to California and settled in Simi Valley to start a new life, where Frank worked at Rocketdyne (rocket engine design and production Co.) 1961-1966; then moved on to Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, as an electrical engineer, until his retirement in 1986. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Templeton and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the beautiful area (which is much like the early days of Simi Valley). Frank, never one to sit still, enjoyed helping others and building or making something, whether it was his docent work at Hearst Castle or utilizing his amazing skills of masonry, carpentry, and electrical work. Frank is survived by his daughter, three grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at the Old Mission San Miguel, officiated by Father Pedro Umana. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

BELZ CAROLYN (BOAG) AGE 79, O...
BELZ CAROLYN (BOAG) Age 79, on September 11, 2017. Carolyn died in the arms of her oldest son, Jimmy. She was a much loved mother, friend, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, earlier this year. She was a nurse practitioner and, in a different time, would have been a doctor. Her son, Mark, was so inspired by her intellect that he became a doctor. She was a very caring woman who crusaded for those in need, inspiring her daughter, Kristen, to become an attorney and social worker for children and youth in need. She was a zealous campaigner for the rights of individuals with disabilities, having been thrust into that role with the birth of her oldest son in 1967. Jimmy has Down Syndrome and was born at a time when institutionalization was the norm. Carolyn and her husband brought Jimmy home and began their advocacy of individuals with disabilities. Jimmy is a caring uncle and son who supported Carolyn after her husband died. She called him her Indian Chief. After cashing in an insurance policy, Carolyn attended nurse's training through Presbyterian Hospital, graduating in 1959. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing in night class, working her way through college alongside Jonas Salk. She put her own career on hold after Jimmy was born, going back to school to obtain a Master's Degree in Nursing through the University of Pittsburgh when Kristen was in first grade. She became a pediatric nurse practitioner and spent a majority of her career working with families and children at Children's Hospital Neurology Department. She supervised countless drug studies for newly developed seizure drugs. Her skills and dedication helped innovative new drugs to be approved for the treatment of devastating seizure disorders. She loved her friends and would do anything to support them. She once walked into Magee Women's Hospital to help a friend who feared her son had a significant heart defect, to assure her he was perfectly healthy. She was also a teacher and support to many colleagues and students. Carolyn adored her grandchildren and found great joy in talking with them and seeing all four of them grow. She gladly took pictures of Flat Stanley in her travels and endured countless Sesame Street Live, Disney on Ice, and Paw Patrol performances because it brought joy to her grandchildren. She kept a healthy supply of grandma cookies for their visits and started the school bus game which her daughter continues with her children. Carolyn is survived by her son, James, Mark (wife, Lori Lee Larson), and daughter, Kristen Belz Ornato (husband, Gene Ornato); grandchildren, Kathleen and Christopher Belz, Ellen and Gino Ornato. Carolyn was also the reluctant grandmother to Kristen's four cats, Arlo, Alice, Savanna, and Brian (fka Pumpkin Pie). The family will receive visitors at CHARLES W. TRENZ FUNERAL HOME, INC., 11110 Frankstown Road in Penn Hills, PA 15235, on Friday, September 22, 2017, between 2 and 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 701 Allegheny River Boulevard, Verona, PA 15147, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017.
