JOHNSON ELIZABETH GIBBY Gibby Johnson died peacefully on August 16, 2017, in Cary, North Carolina. She had a long illness with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Lakewood, Ohio on July 5, 1928, the daughter of Alma and Henry Hiser. Gibby was preceded in death by both parents; her sister, Barbara Hiser Dippel and her husband, Bob Johnson. Gibby grew up in Rocky River, Ohio and graduated from Rocky River High School in 1946. She attended Cazenovia College in New York State. She then worked for American Greeting Cards designing greeting cards. Gibby met Bob Johnson at a dance weekend at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio in 1948. They were married in October of 1950 and had a 64- year marriage. Gibby and Bob moved to Pittsburgh in 1957 where they bought an old Farm House in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania where they lived until 2011. They enjoyed restoring this house and hosting many events there for their wide circle of friends. They were members and helped found the former St. Georges Episcopal Church in Jefferson Hills and later become parishioners at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Brentwood, PA. Gibby will be remembered for her artistic ability and her creativity. She entered many floral displays and frequently won awards at the Allegheny County Fair. She was also a member of the Pleasant Hills Garden Club and The Herb Society of Western Pennsylvania. Gibby always had a project she was working on. Gibby is survived by her sons, David Johnson of Houston, Texas, Robert and Vickie Johnson of Cary, North Carolina; grandchildren, David Johnson of Cary, North Carolina and Curtis and Jessica Johnson of Gastonia, North Carolina. A celebration of Gibby's life will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, in Brentwood, North Carolina, 4048 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227 on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at 2 p.m. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. ROBERTS RANDELL L. Age 53, of McMurray, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2017. Born on June 4, 1964, he was the son of the late Ruth Ann and Glenn Roberts. Beloved husband of 24 years to Victoria (Spak) Roberts; loving father of Caitlin Roberts and Jesse Roberts; dear brother-in-law of Michelle Spak (Joseph Pierzga); and cherished uncle of Maisy Pierzga and James Pierzga. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret Specht. Randy was an avid fisherman who thought of himself as the "Bass Buster." He was also known as the baby whisperer, having a natural ability to soothe all babies. Growing up on his family's horse farm, he loved all kinds of animals, which he shared that passion with his daughter, Caitlin. He was a member of the Peters Township Indian Guides with his son, Jesse, and was always the last one to leave the campfire. He also enjoyed cooking and was the go to BBQ man. Randy took great pride in his masonry projects and was employed by Alvin McLaughlin for 24 years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. THOMAS ANTHONY FRANK Age 90, of Baden, died Saturday, August 19, 2017, in Allegheny General Hospital. He was born October 1, 1926, in Youngstown, OH, to the late William J. and Isabelle (Schomer) Thomas. Frank was a 1945 graduate of Ursuline High School, Youngstown, Ohio. Upon graduation from high school, he served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was discharged on December 17, 1946. He then attended Youngstown College where he graduated in 1952 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. Frank moved to Baden in 1964 where he worked at the former Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation, Midland Works as an Electrical Engineer and General Foreman of the electrical department. He retired from J&L in 2002 after 40 years of service. Frank also worked in the Training Department J&L in Midland and Detroit, Michigan, where he taught power systems and high voltage. Throughout his life and in all that he did, Frank was a faithful, humble, and joyful follower of Christ and his Gospel. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Baden, where he served as a Sacristan. He scheduled the monthly Eucharistic Adoration and enjoyed taking communion to the homebound. Frank was a member of the Holy Name Society and was recognized with the Life Service Award on May 3, 2015, for 40 years of service. He also received the Diocesan Holy Name Appreciation Award and enjoyed helping with the Holy Name pancake breakfasts. He was professed to the Secular Franciscan Order of the Alverno Fraternity on October 7, 2007. He was active for many years with Serra International where he served as District Govenor in 2004, for Region 3, District 21, and was an active member of the Blue Army of Fatima. Frank belonged to the Padre Pio and Infant Jesus Prayer Groups. He worked as a volunteer at Friendship Ridge for 13 years and volunteered at the Villa St. Joseph and Green Diamond for eight years. He was a kind and gentle servant of God. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his two sisters, Marjorie Downie and Mary Barnhart and two brothers, Robert Thomas and Raymond Thomas. Surviving are a sister, Dorothy (Thomas) Place, of Bellbrook, OH; a sister-in-law, Mary (Place) Thomas, of Boardman, OH; numerous nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; godchildren; and many friends whom he loved. Friends will be received Friday from 3-8 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, where prayers will be offered Saturday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. SCHEID ROBERT ELMER, Jr. Age 62, died on August 12, 2017, in California. He was born June 20, 1955, in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated valedictorian from Shaler Area High School in 1973. Rob graduated with honors from Carnegie Mellon University. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology in 1982. After receiving his doctorate, he went to work for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). During his tenure at JPL, he authored more than 40 technical publications. He also received more than 15 NASA Technical Brief Awards for work in advanced aerospace technology. In 1994 Rob was awarded a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law. He continued working at JPL until 1997 when he began his law career in Washington, D.C., moving to the Bay Area after two years. Rob was very active, frequently going to the gym or running. He often attended performances at the American Conservatory Theatre and the San Francisco Opera. He enjoyed food and wine, checking out new restaurants, and relished spending time in California wine country. Rob had a sly side and always looked forward to his annual visit to Las Vegas where he put his nimble mind and prodigious math skills to practical use to the detriment of the 'house'. He also volunteered at the St. Anthony Foundation in San Francisco's Tenderloin District. Rob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Elmer and Helen Burkovic Scheid. He is survived by his brother, Edward Robert Scheid of Pittsburgh, PA; his partner of 15 years, Todd H. Charles of San Francisco; an aunt, Stella Scheid; several cousins and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Rob at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017, in San Francisco.
