SMOUSE WILLIAM LAWRENCE William Smouse, age 99, of Sewickley, PA passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017. He was born August 31, 1917 in Manns Choice, PA the only child of the late Robert Eugene and Blanche Viola Mitchell Smouse. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. After his discharge he worked as an apprentice machinist for the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. Allenport Mill where he worked until his retirement in 1979. Surviving is his wife of 76 years, Helen Lucille Ogden Smouse; two children, Roberta Hartman (Thomas) of Pittsburgh, PA and William Lawrence Smouse, Jr. (Maria) of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Shannon Hartman Cannings, Aaron William Hartman and Patricia Elisa Smouse Gomez; six great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the assembly room at the Masonic Village, 1000 Masonic Dr., Sewickley, PA. A public visitation will also be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the JOHN B. GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main St., Beallsville, PA. Bill participated in many art shows in Pittsburgh, including the Three Rivers Arts Festival, and was a member of James River Art League in Richmond, VA. He will be missed by his family and friends. Dacey; and daughter of John and Ann Longemore; cherished mother of Philip (Arleen), Jr., Gary (Lynn), Shelley, and Ronald (Susan); grandmother of Richard Dacey and McKenzie and Joshua Carruth; beloved sister of Ralph Longemore as well as the late John Longemore, Mary English, and Dorothy Grzandziel-Loeffler. DITZ MARY MARGARET “MARGE” Age 84, of Moon Twp., died in her home on May 18, 2017. She was born in Sewickley on April 30, 1933 the daughter of the late Edward L. Ditz, Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth (Weber) Ditz. Marge worked for many years in data processing for the AFL-CIO United Food & Commercial Workers Union. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Parish where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She is survived by five nieces and nephews, Ann Flugge (Perry), FL; Lori Ward (Rick), Moon Twp.; Eric Schneider, NY; Robert Ditz (Linda), OH and Edward L. Ditz III (Martha), CA.; five great- nieces and nephews; as well as nine great-great-nieces and nephews; and her beloved schnauzer, Molly, will miss her also. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward L. Ditz, Jr.; and sisters, Irene Schneider and Norma Steill. There will be no public visitation. KERN RHODA McKERCHER Age 95, of Hampton Township, died on April 26, 2017. Preceded in death by her husband, Albert and her brother, James Wesley McKercher. Mother to Lynn (Thomas) Haist of Texas, Wendy (David) Hughes of Georgia, and Leslie (Robert) Buchwald of Sarver. Grandmother to Nathaniel Kern of Pittsburgh. Rhoda was a WWII vet, one of the first women to join the Navy Waves. She graduated from Chatham College and earned her Masters of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh. She was a Social Worker for the State of PA but went on to St. Francis Hospital in Lawrenceville, where she was employed for over 35 years. After retiring, she was a Hospice volunteer. Later in life, she was a resident at Cranberry Place. Rhoda was a friend and mentor to many. No cat, dog or child was ever turned away from her door. A good Christian with a big heart, she will be sorely missed. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on June 6, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. Please donate to a No-Kill animal shelter in lieu of flowers. DEL BEL ELSIO “DEL”, Ph.D. Age 97, formerly of Bethel Park, passed away at the Residence at Hilltop, Monongahela, PA, on May 24, 2017, with his daughter, Pat Long, at his side. He was a US Air Force veteran, serving in the 745th Bomber Squadron. Upon discharge, he worked his way through college, eventually obtaining his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University. He worked for many years at Consolidated Coal, then at the U.S. Bureau of Mines, until retirement. He and his beloved wife, Edith "Teed", then traveled around the world, on many trips and cruises. He was preceded in death by his "Teed" in November, 2016; his granddaughter, Pamela Long; his brother, Dr. Nello Del Bel; his sister, Linda Del Bel; and his nephew, Father James Del Bel. He is survived by his daughter, Pat and her husband, Paul Long; grandson, Garett (Berenice) Long; and great-grandchildren, Sara and Josie; favorite niece, Linda (Laszlo) Ivantis, Ph.D.; niece, Maureen; and nephew, Jeff. Also by niece, Christine (Mike) Singel and their sons, Alex and Austin. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Residence at Hilltop, and the staff of Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care they gave both Elsio and Edith. She was born September 24, 1929, in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late Arthur and Belva Artzberger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick O'Shaughnessy, and brother, John Artzberger. She is survived by two children, James (Chris Anderson) O'Shaughnessy of Phoenixville, PA, and Janet (Stephen) Boone of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, Logan, Blake, Jackie, and Luke; and five great-grandchildren, Sara, Owen, Katrina, Jonathan, and William.
