SHEA FRELY ELISABETH Age 75, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017. She was born April 24, 1942 in Alkmaar, NL to Jan and Agnes Nijkamp. Frely and her family came to the United States in 1958. She married Dr. Thomas Shea in 1961. Together they raised three smart and strong daughters. Frely was a dedicated advocate for causes close to her heart and shared that passion with her family. From pulling her children out of school to rally support for important women's legislation, to decorating her youngest daughter's stroller to protest the Vietnam War, no one can think of Frely without a fond memory of her progressive values. Frely worked a variety of fundraising jobs over the years with her longest stint being at West Penn Hospital. Her family has great admiration for the way she blazed trails for women in the workforce and mentored young women needing direction in their careers. Frely's likes include sharp cheddar cheese, flowers someone else maintained, and 1960's pop-folk music. Her dislikes include Fox News, the musical catalogue of Steven Sondheim, and Pittsburgh drivers and pedestrians. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved twin sister, Gemma. She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughters, Cynthia, Jennifer, and Stephanie; sister, Atty; granddaughters, Emily, Riley, and Kendall; son-in-law, Harold; grandson-in-law, Sam; and a slew of loving nieces and nephews.
