KATHRYN COURTNEY HENNINGER SOKOL On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, Kathryn Courtney “KC” Sokol of Pittsburgh passed away at Shadyside Hospital after a courageous, ten-year struggle with Multiple Myeloma. Beloved wife of Carman Michael “Buddy” Sokol, she leaves behind four step children, Gina Vacsulka of Atlanta, GA., Kristina Murray of Los Angeles, CA., Victoria of Pittsburgh, and Julie Salah of Alpharetta, GA. She also leaves behind her mother in-law, Jaqueline Sokol of Belle Vernon whose ongoing love, friendship and advice was greatly cherished. KC is survived by her parents, Barbara Anne McGreivey and Frederick W. “Bill” Henninger of Pittsburgh; brother, Michael A. Henninger; sister-in-law, Melanie Canavan and two nieces, Molly Belle, and Murphy Jane, all of Pittsburgh. KC was born in 1971 in Pittsburgh, and attended Winchester Thurston and Ithaca College where she graduated with a degree in Media Communications in 1989. Driven by hard work and determination, KC had a successful career as a sales, marketing and communications executive with WTAE, Hearst Broadcasting, The Sarasota Herald Tribune and Howard Hanna. She was very proud to have earned the prestigious Hearst Broadcasting Eagle Award for national sales excellence three years in a row, a rare accomplishment. KC will be remembered for putting others before herself, her big smile, contagious laugh, positive attitude and incredible sense of humor. She was a great friend to everyone who knew her and leaves behind a legacy of courage and love. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue on Wednesday, September 2nd from 6-8 p.m., and Thursday September 3rd from 2-4 and at 6-8 p.m. Funeral Friday, September 4th, Mass of Christian Burial Friday, at Sacred Heart Church in Shadyside at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the Pittsburgh Foundation in care of the Allegheny Relief Fund, Five PPG Place, Pittsburgh, PA. 15222 or Paws Across Pittsburgh, 346 Orchard St., Springdale, PA 15144.
