MacCONNELL JOCELYN Age 88, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013. Jocelyn grew up in Ben Avon, graduated from Colby College, married Richard Jennings MacConnell, and ventured on to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she spent the next 23 years raising her children. She then got a master's degree at Johns Hopkins University and started tutoring learning-disabled individuals, first in San Juan, then in Fairfax, VA. She was a strong proponent of education and a believer in the arts, an avid reader, a hound on the tennis court and the golf course, and an accomplished pianist. She also loved gardening, and readers of this notice are encouraged to slow down and smell a gardenia. In 2002, Jocelyn was predeceased by her husband, Richard Dick Jennings MacConnell. She is survived by her children, Jocelyn (Dave) Durrance, Jennings (Suzanne) MacConnell, Jen Dismukes, and Michael (Susan) MacConnell; her sisters, Natalie Hulme Curry, Holiday Hulme Shoup and Aura Raspaldo Hulme; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her longtime and devoted caregiver, Elizabeth Argueta. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
