EGAN ANNA D. Died on April 27, 2014, at home with her family nearby, of colon cancer. Born in Exeter, NH, Mrs. Egan was the daughter of the late William Perry Dudley and Marika (Cassapoglou) Dudley of Exeter, NH. Her parents were both long term residents of France prior to her birth and raised her in a bilingual home, speaking English and French. Her childhood home was The Gilman Garrison House in Exeter, NH, restored by her father, which is now a historic landmark. Mrs. Egan graduated from Phillips Academy, earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Wellesley College and a master's degree in education from the University of New Hampshire. For over 30 years, Mrs. Egan was a case manager at HealthSouth, formerly known as D.T. Watson Rehabilitation Hospital, where she was an outstanding advocate on behalf of patients. She had a passion for public service and served for 17 years on the Sewickley Zoning and Hearing Board where she was also the chairperson. Mrs. Egan's greatest joy, however, was spending time with family and friends. An enthusiastic optimist, she celebrated every holiday with family traditions, family recipes, boundless positive energy and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She had a warm smile, a kind and generous spirit, and was an active listener who lived in the present moment of every conversation. She enjoyed cooking Greek and French food with her grandchildren, meeting friends at the Christy House, and loved the ocean. Mrs. Egan was a member of the Sewickley Historical Society. Mrs. Egan was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Dr. Roy Egan; and her cousins, Alan B. Shepard of Pebble Beach, CA and Henry B. Shepard of Boston, MA. She is survived by her daughter, Alexis Egan (Peter) Theis of Sewickley, PA; her grandchildren, Nicholas Egan Theis and Anna Egan Theis; her cousins, Gardner Dudley Shepard of Exeter, NH and Anne Shepard Bullis of Marblehead, MA; and her sister-in-law, Linda A. Egan; her niece, Amy B. Egan; and her great-nephew, Christopher Egan DeLisle of East Longmeadow, MA. A gathering of family and friends will be held at COPELAND'S FUNERAL HOME IN SEWICKLEY, on Friday, May 9, 2014, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be led by Northway Christian Community Sewickley Valley and will be held at St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church at 801 Beaver St. in Sewickley on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. The family suggests memorial donations be sent to the Sewickley Public Library, 500 Thorn St., Sewickley, PA 15143 in memory of Anna D. Egan. Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
