KUCHTA JOSEPH M. On July 1, age 90, Joseph Kuchta, long-time resident of Pleasant Hills, passed away. He was the beloved husband of Juliana for 66 years; the loving father of Karen (Jay) Suszynski, Mark (Anne), and Lisa (Tom) Love; and the loving grandfather of Julia Suszynski and Kimberly Love. Joseph was born in Vandergrift in 1922 to a Slovak family of nine children. His brother, August of Sayre, PA is his only surviving sibling. During WWII, Joseph served as part of the Bloody 100th Division of the U.S. Air Force as a B17 Navigator. After the war, Joseph graduated from Washington & Jefferson College with a B.S. in chemistry and immediately went to work at the U.S. Bureau of Mines as a research chemist specializing in fires and explosions. After his retirement in 1980, he worked another ten years for the Mine Safety Administration in Sewickley, primarily working as consultant and expert witness for the mining and aeronautical industries. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pleasant Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10 a.m. at St. Thomas a'Becket Church, Jefferson Hills. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Washington & Jefferson College or to St. Thomas a'Becket Church.
