CROSS SOPHIA JEAN Age 91, of Carnegie, died on June 1, 2015, at Country Meadows Nursing Center in Bridgeville. Born April 29, 1924, in Joffre, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Samuel Elias Cross and Mary David Cross. A 1942 graduate of Carnegie High School, she was employed by the A&P (Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company) in Carnegie for many years and went on to work at Thrift Drug Store and Rite-Aid in Bridgeville until she was well into her eighties. She was an active member of St. George Orthodox Church in Bridgeville. Sophia was known for her outgoing manner and her generosity. Wherever she went, she quickly knew everyone by name and loved to introduce people to one another and to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Louis, Michael, and an infant brother; and by two sisters-in-law, Mary (Louis) Cross and Mildred (Thomas) Cross. She will be greatly missed by her brothers, Thomas, George (Carolyn), and Samuel (Andrea) and their families. She is survived by ten nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a great-great-niece and a great-great-nephew. Family and friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Trisagion Service at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the LEO J. HENNEY FUNERAL HOME, 323 2nd Avenue, Carnegie. On Thursday, June 4, 2015, a Trisagion Service will be held at the Leo J. Henney Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral service following at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Orthodox Church, 610 Dewey Ave., Bridgeville, PA with her priest, V. Rev. Jason DelVitto, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cemetery Fund of her church, St. George Orthodox Church, Bridgeville. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
